Is there an official (or semi-official) rule on how to determine the
initiative of a drone on auto-pilot?
I would use 1d6 + autopilot-rating or 2d6 + aprating
to not make them faster than when controlled by a rigger...
But should they be faster than most people or not ???
Would anyone else out there tell me what they use as rule?

I thought the drones used the rigger's initiative- they shouldn't be
faster than the controller, unless they are carrying out a pre-programmed
response to a situation. ie observe door. If anyone comes thru door, hose
them. In those instances they would probably have surprise in their favor.
Anyone have the RBB handy for a rules check?

They use the rigger's initiative when on autopilot?
By being on autopilot I mean that they have been given a command like
"patrol this corridor" or something like that, and the rigger isn't actively
controlling the drone. For instance deck with ten slave ports of which the
rigger can control up to three at the time....so I'm talking about a drone on
AUTOpilot.
It would seem a bit strange that it makes a difference if the rigger issueing
(sp?) the command has a VCR level 1,2,or 3. The drone stays the same...
I'm not saying you're wrong, it might be explicable in some way, but I'd like to
hear it.

Hoi Koert,
Re-checked the book, yep, even on what you are terming
"autopilot" the drone still uses the Rigger's Initiative. The Rigger's
Initiative used is the one she would get from the most-damaged of her
vehicles, but *all* of her vehicles use the same initiative.
It's simple, but it works. Shamrock and Dilly both use drones at
times and the rule works pretty well so far. The Rigger uses the
*lowest* Initiative she would get from the most damaged of her vehicles
as her Initiative for *all* of her vehicles.
Hope this helps,

I was originally thinking about simply giving drones an autopilot
reaction of maybe (AP lvl.) + 1D6. But the more I thought about it,
the more I thought that it should probably be a little better.

So how's this sound:

2(AP lvl.) + (1D6 for every two levels of autopilot)

Most drones have pretty low autopilots, although you're going to find
some with lvl.s 4 & 5 which would give you reactions of 8 & 10, but
if you're going to be paying that kind of money for those levels,
you'd expect a little better reaction out of them. The same concept
goes for the D6 for every two levels of AP. An AP of 1 or 2 is going
to be like a smart dog (not the best reactions in a gunfight), a 3 or
4 gets you the equiv of a slightly cybered security (I think that
sounds reasonable), and if you're going to shell out the money for
level 5 (or happen to run across somebody with access to level 6)
yeah, I figure that'll be equiv to one slick samurai.

So how's that sound to folks out there? QFC? (Questions, Flames,
Comments?)

Hoi, Jacob,
Why not just use the rules? Drones get the Initiative of the
Rigger controlling them, per SRII.

Sorry, I didn't have access to a RBB at the time I was coming up with
those prospective rules.
