Not sure, but I guess you can also die as a side-effect from the addiction
due to neglecting your health in favor of being high. That's not dying
directly from being addicted, though.

I never had any PCs take drugs, so I never actually needed the rules, but
I had modified them to be somewhat more playable. The successes from the
Body or Willpower test were used to determine the Essence loss (IIRC, it
was half a point divided by 1+successes), and only lost a box from your
condition monitors if you failed to get any successes at all. Maybe not
entirely realistic either, but at least you could live far past ten weeks
this way.
