I don't know if this has been asked before but, do the Discarding Sabot
round spin? I was talking to a history major on our floor that just
happens to be into military stuff and this was brought up.

In general, the DS round is also FS (Fin Stabilized), which means no spin.
Of course this could be an incorrect assumption for small arms, like 7.62
or .30.30.

Yes, discarding sabot rounds spin. The sabot engages the barrel's
rifling just as a normal bullet would. Discarding sabots are also
used for shotgun slug rounds as a way to give the slug a spin,
despite being fired through a smoothbore weapon.

It depends on whether it was fired from a rifle or not (rifle meaning
firearm with a rifled barrel). If fired from a rifle then it will be a spin
stabilized penetrator, if fired from a smoothbore it will be a fin
stabilized penetrator.

Discarding Sabot round do not spin (at least at pressent)
This is why the M1A1 Abrahms uses a 120mm Smoothbore Cannon
