from readind the novels, esp worlds without end i get the immpression
that magic works if you are powerful but is scarce in the low mana
cycle. The immortals use the equivanlent of the physical mask spell
to alter their appearance and hide that way, yes they could cover day
to week variations(from wounds/black eyes etc.) sustaining it with ED
matrix/thread magic as opposed to having to quicken it in SR without
horrible karma costs.

It would seem reasonable that at low enough magic levels the thorns
go away regardless, hence why no thorny elves in SR, but given enough
mana lots of are going to grow thorns, which will wreak havoc with
elven PR :)

I was under the immpression they had to sleep, some recent comments
about dragon stuff in the fifth world seems rather strange. The only
thing that might explain it (appart from slip ups by authors) is that
in ED there are some groups of name givers that work for dragons
(after all a dragon can be a very useful friend) and they might
therefore have left secret organisations, maybe headed by non-elf
immortals to run their estates while they slept. No proof but i don't
see how else all the comments fit.

Harlequin stuck his back on again, we only know about it from
'Harlequin', his picture on HB certainly has 2 ears if memory serves.

And elven charisma! Finally, no more lording it over us HUMAN PCs! "Yes,
I *know* you've got 8 Charisma, but no, the girl in the club refuses to
date you" "Awwwww... how come?" "'Cause you've got ruddy great bits of

wood sticking out of you, and she doesn't think that's cute!"

*grin*

Thorns? Last time I checked elves didn't grow thorns regardless of mana
levels in this game.

If you have to ask then it's probably classified.
Which means that I have to follow protocol.
But if you ask nicley I might forget that you asked.
Then again maybe not.

This would seem to be a rather thorny problem for the elven set...

It's from EarthDawn. In Earthdawn, to protect themselves from the
Horrors, the elves in Wyrm Wood (now Blood Wood) grew thorns out of
themselves. Rather horrible in fact. Now, in one of the Tir's (can't
remeber which, I think Tir na nOg) they're doing lots of genetic research
to try and find the "thorn gene" that will cause thorns to grow in them
when mana levels get high enough.

Look at some of the Vampire wannabes hanging around clubs and LARPs these
days, at all the pierced folk who couldn't pass through an airport metal
detector naked, and tell me that there won't be a lot of people who find
this stuff attractive! I have wondered at times if they didn't throw the
Blood Elves in just to draw their interest. My alternate theory, after
having read some of his fiction and playing in one of his games at a con,
is that Mr. Gorden has some kind of thorn fetish. :)

Anyway, the blood elves were only ever a very small portion of the Elven
population in Earthdawn.

But think about it. If they don't find it when the magic gets high enough
we'll be able to tell the good elves from the bad. After all the Blood elves
where very nasty to the rest of the world. :)
