As I've gathered from superficial readings of the sagas of Ehran and
Harlequin, these Elves have attained their power mainly because they are
quite old, I've heard estimates of 5000 years for Ehran:-)
But how can their metagenes survive the intermediate years when the mana
was low? Did they simply sit on a spike, or is there something else I'm
missing?
I mean, there was no trolls nor orcs in the 5'th world, which could be
because they regressed to norms, or that they were wiped out by the
horrified humans and the elves who saw a chance to entertain themselves
(I'm not an ED expert as you might guess).

But if Ehran did not revert to a norm (and live at most 100 extra years),
how did he survive?
I'm sure this is cited somewhere, I'm just too illiterate to get it :-)

It's not cited anywhere... what's IMPLIED isthat magic was still around in
the low mana cycles, but the power of magic was so low as to be almost
useles. For example, a Force 20 spell may have had the power of a Force 1
spell.

Now, for ormal people, that's like saying magic doesn't exist. For people
who can cast spells at Force 20, and know other techniques for
concentrating the power, however...

(Actually, I assume that the immortality technique caused a genetic change
that survived the low mana period. Look at Ehran's daughter, Frosty, for
example. She's immortal as well, but presumably never underwent a ritual to
gain it)

Real Programmers never work 9 to 5. If any real programmers
are around at 9 am, it's because they were up all night.

See the origonaly Harlequin adventure. The last scene includes Ehrans
lab, where it is implied he spent large ammounts of time in the 5th
age, and kept hidden by magic at the same time.

Considering she does not know she's immortal or that shes Ehrans
daughter [unless she pieced that together from the conversaion posted
in the Atzlan sourcebook as i assume she can get to Shadowland] that
seems reasonable.

Is it possible for non-elves to become immortal, there being a
picture in the ED main book captioned 'Ania reaches for immortality'?
