Okay, here's something that has always bothered me. Why is it, that for some
reason, people constantly keep making Earth Elementals unable to "move through
the earth." I keep seeing phrases like the above paragraph, and they not only
confound me, they leave me, I don't know .. befuddled just doesn't quite fit
here.

Okay folks, I know that "Living Earth" is an "astral barrier" as per
the
rules, but certain beings have that "obstacle" as part of their "native
environment". I mean think about it, Mountain Spirits would have a similar
concept, at least IMO.

Yeah, I didn't quite get that either. Water elementals can move
freely through water, fire through fire, and air through air. Why not
earth through earth? (and the first one to quote a physics formula
gets cursed with a spell of Extreme Nerdness :).
It does make sense to allow each type free movement through it's
native environment. I always pictured the metaplane of earth to be a
combination of solid layers of earth with tunnels and layers of
magma. Extremely confusing for the meta mage to travel through, but
it fits the bill.

It would indeed unduly penalize "solid" spirit types, so even if you
can't see the logic, see it as a game balance part.
