TopCat's comments remind me of a player in my game. Raven, a
heavily cybered elf who loathes most elvenkind in general and the EI in
particular. Now this got me to thinking. We've been led to believe that
some elves born in the 5th/6th world are immortals (ex. Lady Brane Deigh,
I think). So what happens if it's discovered that such an immortal elf
hates the EI and elves in general. Basically I want to set it up such
that Raven is discovered to be an immortal and go from there. Any ideas?
comments? snide remarks?

Well, for one thing, I'd say that the loss of all that essence would weaken
his lifeforce.
He might still live a a few times longer than a standard elf, but he would
age and die eventually.
(At least he'd appear to be immortal for the first hundred or so years
though....)

Gosh Darn you ask the harder questions...Immortal Elves...I think FASA wants
to give us players and GM's just enough information on these elves to keep
us wondering. An Immortal Elf's tale is kind of told in the Shadowrun Novel
"World's without End" by Caroline Spector. This novel takes place in the 6th
world of Shadowrun and is the first of a trilogy. The other two novels are
not published yet and are due to be set in the world of Earthdawn (the 4th
world). As far as I can tell, there are some elves that seem to be holding
back an all consuming evil. Our mutual friend Harlequin seems to be in the
forefront of this timeless battle. He appears in the multi-modules
"Harlequin" and "Harlequin's back", and the novels "House of the
Sun", and
"Worlds without End". His brother, Ehran the Scribe is also in the
multi-module "Harlequin", I think Worlds without end, and in the Sourcebook
"Tir Tairngire" as a Prince of that nation. In fact, it seems that most of
the Princes of the nation are Immortal. Most of the information I hav
gathered about the Immortals is in text written in the preludes of the
Harlequin based multi-modules. These stories have been written by Tom Dowd.
I would assume that he is the man "in the know" about Immortal elves. I own
all of the above mentioned products. Let me know what you think/find out
about the Immortals.

On you wanting to allow one of your players play an Immortal Elf. I would
let the player think all he wants until you have done your homework. All
elves born into the 6th world have not yet died of old age like Orks and
Trolls have. (Meta)humanity of the 6th world is not sure of the lifespans of
Dwarves and Elves. I encourage for you to do your homework and make a
campaign/plotline
for this Elven character to "find his roots". I am assuming he has not a
clue about his parents, and if he does, ...oh my he was adopted...<insert
plot devices and wear a wicked evil GM grin>. Most of all keep the player
wondering...<wide evil grin>.

Dear Mr. Me:

Ask your GM to run your team through Harlequin (an 8 part multiple module
bound in one nifty package). It is basically Harlequin hiring the runners as
middlemen to exact a kind of "revenge/counting of coup" on his brother,
Ehran the Scribe. I am trying not to give up too much plot here...

Raven sounds a lot like TopCat himself (sickeningly cybered-biowared elf who
hates the EI). Now on with the subject...

Since as far as I know, 5th/6th world elves haven't started dying off from
old age yet. So they could all be immortal. But just because they are
immortal, that doesn't mean they are members of the EI, though. Becoming an
EI member would take some serious RP.

It has never been officially stated that all elves/dwarves are immortal.
Many conspiracy theorists of 205X think so, and many others do as well. The
EI knows it, but they'll be damned before they tell anyone the truth on the
matter. Which is smart, because there'd be all sorts of repercussions if
this were ever made official knowledge.

If you want to set up Raven as an immortal (as in actually knowing that
he'll live forever) then you might want to check out the whole "Ways and
Paths" thing from ED/TNO. I know the basics of it, but not the facts so I
won't go any further without checking it myself :)

You mean he'd have to hate himself, right? The only thing you need for
this is a plausible way for him to find out that he is immortal, and let
him roleplay everything from there. You can't predict how he's going to
react, I think, so your best bet would be to reveal it to him somehow and
play along from there.

One way to implement this would be to use the Paths idealogy of the Tir
Na Nog. Have Raven be a mortal travelling the Paths (sounds like s/he's
on the Way of the North currently). Raven is mortal due to some past
transgression against the Ways of the Path that caused a fall from grace.

Set up some way of allowing Raven to realize her/his "immortal spirit",
and make the final ascension to the centre of the Paths (and immortality)
the attonement for those past mistakes.

I just had another thought, if Raven hates these Immortals so much, make
the attonement a process of revenge against one of the Illuminati for
past actions against Raven's family, maybe even a form of Harlequin and
Ehran's game (it was called something like Cthaila (sp?)). Of course
this will all lead to some seriously high power game sessions and some of
the other players might feel a little left out, so be careful with the
amount of attention this is given.

Hope this helps. Mail me how it all works out, it's got my interest.

Yep. Ded good adventure(s). There's no place in it that says they're
brothers though.....

Wouldn't it be much easier (and plausible) to hae Raven think he is
immortal due to some weirdo doc saying so, a dream, the influence of a
spirit (or spirits :-) ) instead of actually being immortal...
