Hello again.

I just got all excited because I had received over a half a dozen
replies to my post. Unfortunately, none of them had anything to do with
the questions I asked. ;)

I have answered some of what I posted on my own via digging further
through my limited resources, but I am now stuck.

Here's what I still need to find out:

When it comes to creating a focus with Arcana, I can't find any
reference as to how to determine which Arcana are required for any given
focus. What's to stop an enchanter from using lead (12 NY per raw unit)
instead of gold (10,000 NY per raw unit) if Mineral Arcana is used? How
do you determine the type of Arcana that is necessary in the first place
(Herbal, Mineral, Metal)?

Thanks for your help.

Justin :)

There IS norule that determines what arcanum is used for the (virgin) telesma.
It's just a matter of Roleplaying, and of course the GM can/will point out the
"lower" materials at any time ("Well, [s]he isn't impressed by your
lead-based
dull-gray weapon focus, no").

I'd suggest appropriate Arcana to how you want the thing to look and behave.
Iron, for example, is probably standard for weapon foci, though you might use
a mixture of Copper and Tin to have bronze instead; most foci that pretend to
be jewelry would probably best be made with silver or gold Arcana.

I think the reason why you still haven't gotten a direct answer to this
one is...The material can be literally *any* pure substance..the choices
will be determined by the personality of the enchanter...So a Healing
fetish of one Mage could be some feathers and for another a piece of
flint....

I like the notion of expendable healing fetishes being something a magician
cooks with appropriately refined healing herbs or something. "Here, eat
this muffin while I cast and sustain a spell on you..." "Drink your chicken
soup while I'm casting Cure Disease..."

It would work especially well in role playing a shaman

You give them a bottle of colored water, and then cast the spell without
them noticing it. Makes it all a lot more impressive :)
