One of my player, being short on nuyen, decided to purchase his enchantin=
g shop
partially, component by component.

I okayed that, ruling that it would cost him 25% more than the listed pri=
ce of
100.00¥.

My problem is that i don't have the slightest idea about what those compo=
nents
are, except for the obvious furnace/athanor.

So, if any of you had an idea about what's in an enchanting shop, i would=
be
most gratefull.

Thanks.

If you feel a little lazy, you can always make him buy a "percentage"
of
the shop... Say, since it will cost 125.000¥ overall, he can spend 10K
now, another
30K later, etc, until he has all the shop...

Oh boy, my advice is don't make it any harder on yourself or your player =
than you have to. By buying the shop "a piece at a time", and then try=
ing to define "which pieces" you have bought, you have earned yourself =
a lot of trouble.

Not a bad way of doing it, but then I would said street index would have =
been more than enough (usually a 2 for many magical things).

An Enchanter's Shop...hmmm....exact details would be kind of crazy. I ha=
ve always pictured it as a combination of alembics workplace and a chem=
ists oversized toybox. A furnace (athanor, now there is a word I haven=
't heard in ages) that would be suitable for small quantity smelting or=
metallurgical work. Glassblowing might also be considered, especially=
if the character gets' into heavy details.

Lots of paint-pots, small jars that have various mixtures within them, ra=
w materials to be used in the refinement process, but not actually requ=
ired materials for the refinement/radicalization processes.

Perhaps some magnifying lenses, or even a microscope (non-electronic), =
especially if the enchanter has a desire to work / enchant some really sm=
all things (like the links in somebody's denture work, or even VERY det=
ailed engraving that might be required for equally detailed enchantment=
requirements).

I know that I've had Binder wander around with a "personalized enchanter'=
s kit", which basically meant it had some things in it that he used to =
get away with some short cuts here and there in the collection of raw m=
aterials (lowering his target's by a point as a reflection of such). Y=
es it cost more, and we came up with some goofy numbers when he put it =
all together originally.

You may also want to consider what is used for Enchanting overall.

Inks if Tattooing or "Scrolls" are being considered.

Glassware for anything from triggering items to Alchemy Bottles.

Ceramics.

Metalwork (varies, if weaponsmithing is to occur, then a large enough fur=
nace is going to be required of course).

Weaving.

I guess it would all come down the background the character in question i=
s going to have. Binder has interests in lots of things, and has encha=
nted everything from a Flying Carpet to a Potion of Healing (Heal Ancho=
ring type) to the Sphynx of Giza (long story...), so naturally he's dev=
eloped a lot.

Your player's options are wide open, as wide as you want to allow them to=
be.

You forgot the stuffed crocodile or alligator hanging on the ceiling.
Can't enchant without them :)

Where are the rules for "Tatoo" magic? I cannot find anything
pointing me in the right direction. (Nobody point me towards Rifts
either, that was just too silly).

The rules for tattoo magic in SR appeared in the Underground Sourcebook.
Basically, magic tattoos are a sturdier way of making
Quickenings...by attaching to the spell to the enchanted inks
rather than to a living aura they're more resistant to dispelling
attempts, astral attacks, an grounding attempts...which leads me to
believe that you can ground through Quickenings :)

Or at least you could until a week ago when both concepts vanished from
SR.

You'll find the rules for Tattoo magic - or at least the basics for them in
the Underworld Sourcebook on page 96 - 97.

Try the Underworld Sourcebook ...

For an example of one way to handle tattoo/rune magic, try reading the
Deathgate Cycle books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. No rules, but
tattoo/rune magic is integral to the storyline.

OH DAMN!!! You're right Martin, blast, blast, @#$%@#$%#@, I don't believe
it...and all those cozy little Unicorn and Dragonette pillows too...

And here Binder's favorite tidbit has always been the large aquarium with a
giant jellyfish that blows bubbles all day.. ;>

They are in the Underworld Sourcebook, and I believe (hope here), that they
will also reappear in the MitS text as well. They are found within the
section concerning the Asian Gangs (Triads, Tongs, etc...) and their specific
"colors" of magic.

Or you could use the used / damaged vehicle rules- I think its something
along the lines of each box of damage reduces price 5%, so with "9 boxes" of
damage, you would pay 55% and get a +3 TN to all tasks using the shop. Repare
costs are what, 10% per box?

As for actually describing what's in there, sheesh- anything and
everything. I'd personally vote for including Tessla coils, orgone boxes, and
fancy glassware, as well as some fancy glyphicly decorated work surfaces- I'd
love one of those "mad scientist" mage types.
