I've been playtesting an enhanced version of the Adept Power Mystic Armor.. for a Full
Magic Point (as opposed to half) it gives a point of impact _and_ ballistic armor.

So, Whadda Y'all think, balance wise?

Why not just say that for the .5 point you get either 1 point of impact or
1 point of ballistic?

To stop folks from only buying cheap ballistic protection. They've
got to commit the whole point to get the benefit. Frankly though, I
think even with that it's a little unbalanced.

I have an NPC Twisted Way adept in the works who the equivilent of this
power (just by a different name). It manifests physically as a
transformation of his skin into a scaly, dragon-like hide.

IMNSHO, Enhanced Mystic Armor is more likely in Twisted Way adepts, as the
physical transformations they might/can undergo makes explanation of heavier
(Balistic) protection more feasible and sensible. Of course, a case sould
be made based on the Armor spell...

Damn. Gotta go.

I agree. If I'd allow it, I'd make 1 power point per point of ballistics
(as opposed to .5 power points per point of impact). Just my opinion
though. :)

I would have the impact and ballistic be in the same category,
however, I wouldn't make them into a 1/1 for 1 magic point. I would
say .5 magic point buys you 1 pt. of armor. This may be divided
between ballistic or impact with one restriction: the ballistic armor
can NEVER be greater than half the impact rating (round UP.)

This allows your players to spend 1 magic point and get 1/1, but they
can't just spend 2 magic and get 2/2. To get 2 ballistic, they have to
spend 2.5 magic points and get 2/3. In this way, Magic points spent is
not linearly related to ballistic armor rating however, impact armor
(a physad's specialty) IS or can be. (EX: at character creation, I
take lv1 reflexes, 4x Mystic armor, M killing hands, and 2x Increase
unarmed combat. I choose my 4 points of mystic armor to be 0/4 (like
normal), because I want to be the 'ultimate' martial artist. EX2: I
want to shoot guns but be bullet proof. I take 8x Mystic armor, and 2x
increase pistols. I'll choose my mystic armor to be 3/5 (let's see
that hold out stop ME!))

I'd keep this all under the name Mystic Armor, and allow current
characters to buy up ballistic (providing they want it) by just adding
level to their mystic armor. (EX: Later I initiate and decide to spend
my magic point on mystic armor, I'm getting holes punched in me all
the time by bullets and I don't like it. I 'buy' 2x Mystic armor, and
add both points to my ballistic armor rating. (2/4) EX2: Heh, heh. Now
I can be MORE bullet proof, I'm improving my pistol skill fast enough
anyway, I 'buy' 2x more Mystic armor. Unfortunately I can't get what I
want... My only potion is 0/7. 4/6 is illegal and so is (of course)
5/5. EX2B: Dang, that GM always thinks physads WANT to be pummeled to
death by hand. I need some more impact armor. I by 2x more Mystic
armor. I go to 3/7. Note: That I _couldn't_ go to 2/8 or 1/9 because
that is equivalent to getting back points spent and putting then
elsewhere... which base rules don't allow. [If you have some way to
change a phyads powers, that would apply here.])
