Of all the little 'secrets' FASA keeps, the one that bothers me the
most is:

The tactical nuke launched by the native indians that never went off.

Just about every FASA sourcebook says:

There are many theories why the missile never went off, but no proof.

What theories? I've never heard of any. Have any of you? If not have
you explained it to your players at all?

Just curious.

In the Secrets of Power books Sam uses the GGD to "speed up time" to
cause the radioactive components to decay down to harmless non
radioactive elements.

My favorite theory is that they didn't go off because the plutonium
was removed at some point before they were fired. This means that
someone has a hell of a lot of plutonium. (BTW, in my game only.)

Umm ... I know my opinion varies from a lot of people, but there's been
several references to nukes simply not functioning properly since the
return of magic.
My personal theory is that mana severely restricts/regulates the
uncontrolled fission of nuclear materials.

I'm too short on time and energy to repost my whole mana/nuclear powers =
two sides of same coin theory, but I'm of the opinion that these two
fundamental forces of nature in the SR universes are quite closely related.

Only time will tell I suppose.

Yes, but that process only worked for those places that Sam's teams' were
sent to and/or aware of. Still doesn't answer the question...

If I remember correctly with _Burning Bright_ that whoever was in charge of
the operation in Chicago said not to worry about the bomb going off.
However none (or very little) of the radiation got through the Bug Queen's
ward.

And the target nukes had needed a special powder thrown on them
so all other nukes are fine.
