My God!!! It's full of detractors!

Let us start with Richard J. Carter's (nice name) arguments on seeing aura and
casting spells. He says its silly and that he's a SRII junkie. Well, Richard,
SRII page 149 says the reason you have to be able to see your target with line
of sight is the following:

"The reason has to do with _how_ a spell works. As a spell is being cast, the
magician's senses are opened partially to the astral plane. The magician,
because of the working of the astral forces that power the spell, is able to
see the aura of the target. This allows him to align or synchronize his aura
with that of the target, permitting the astral energy to...."

And on SRII page 150 the subject of mirrors is brought up.

"Well, mirrors are tricky, and very deadly. A target seen reflected in a mirror
is a valid target. Auras are synchronized, the spell is released, and the spell
energy follows a direct (as possible) path to the target. No, it does not head
out and reflect off the mirror, like the image of the target. Spells are
smarter than that. Mirror do, therefore, qualify in line-of-sight figuring.
Note that manipulation spells, as discussed below, cannot be used this way..."

Lastly the Spell Targeting section on SRII page 130 sayes:

"In choosing a target or targets, the magician can choose anything within sight.
Sight is the key concept. Magicians cannot directly affect what they cannot
see. Binoculars, glasses, telescopes, and other devices that enhance vision for
spellcasting, as can any magic or technology that penetrates darkness. A
magician cannot, however, cast spells directly at invisible beings or beings in
astral space by using enhanced vision or astral perception. Remote vision, such
as through a telecom screen, security camera, or a remote-senseing spell like
clairvoyance are also useless for casting spells. A good rule of thumb is that
magicians must be able to see their targets with their own eyes or a natural
extension of those eyes. The image of the target must be the original image;
nothing that translates the image into another medium works. So, _optical_
binoculars that work fine for spellcasting, but _electronic_ binoculars that
digitize the light form the image and computer-enhance it would not work."

"Mirrors work fine, and transparent glass is no hinderence, but unless the mage
is on the "see-through" side of a one-way mirror, that would not work either.
Cybereyes work because the magician has paid essense for them. The remote
cameras of a drone, however, would not work. See COMBAT SPELLS (p. 151), SPELLS
AND ASTRAL SPACE (p. 149), and MANIPULATION SPELLS (p. 156) for further
discussions of vision and spell targeting."

Thus you must be able to see a targets aura to cast a spell at his and gosh darn
aura are reflected by mirrors!!!!! Kinda lends support to needing eyes to see
with astral perception.

On to Crossfire:

For the last time, "I know that the Combat Mage has cybereyes!!!!!"

> Nor would I try to refute the Combat Mage's cybereyes. Of course they can see
> astral and cast spells. They don't have Electronic Mag.

Wait. Just a second here. This doesn't make any sense to me. Cybereyes means
that his entire visual receptors have been replaced with electronic ones. I
thought you were argueing that electronic magnification didn't work because
you saw a processed image, but, needless to say, that ie exactly what a cybereye
would give. The entire retina and everything has been replaced. Essentially,
you have a camera there.

IMHO, cybereyes are basicall a electro-mechanical device that replaces the eye.
Instead of the normal rods and cones in real eyes it has tiny photo recepters
that are hooked up directly to the optic nerve. The only thing that normal
cybereyes does it transmit data directly to the optic nerve just like real eyes.
And guess what? It's an electronic signal just like real eyes make.

Low Light and Thermographic Enhancements, in either cybereyes or as retinal
modification add additional photoreceptors that are alined to the correct light
frequencies.

Optical Magnification uses sets of lenses to enlarge the image before it reaches
the rods/cones/photoreceptors in the eye. Thus the image is enlarged.

Electronic Magnification uses a computer to breakdown, enlarge, and rebuild the
image after it has reached the eye, but before it gets to the brain.

If you follow these explainations on how cybereyes and retinal modification
work, than you can only conclude that the image a mage sees through cybereyes
with anything but electonic mag is the original image he must see to cast
spells, but the one seen though electronic magnification is not. Therefore a
mage with Electronic Magnification cannot cast spells!

Lastly Ethan Court ask why do I think astral perception is linked to eyes. The
reason is above. You cannot cast a spell at a target that you cannot see with
your eyes and you can see auras in mirrors. This supports my argument, although
I would not call it definitive proof. Besides if you blindfold Shapeshifter or
flash a dragon, they can see!

See Ya in Shadows,
