Ok folks lets get this straight before we dig ourselves a big whole.
Evil witches with pots are just a commercialized folklore made up by people who
really didn't know anything about what they where talking about - and really
didn't care since it made them money.

As to the pot thing and such - Its not that great of an idea. This is the sixth
world chummer. Magic is as easy as patting your head andrubbing your tummy.
-Maybe in the old days they needed the pot and everything else to cast magic,
after all many of the indian tribes had to go through similiar trials before the
awakening just to do simple things (pg 118 SRII). But now a magician only need
do a few words or gestures to create magic. That is why there aren't WITCHES in
shadowrun - you don't need the pot and eye of newt anymore.

Oh - Wiccans on a whole do not use bad magic - they believe that if you use
magic to harm people it will come back at you x-fold (what x is I really can't
remember)

I must disagree in the strongest terms here.

Magic is easy until you blow a fuse then you need to pat your tummy
or it won't work- Geas.

And the material components still exist, they are called FETISHES.

I believe witches are alive and strong in shadowrun. And no they
are not hermetic, IMHO. But then again, they are shamanic in nature
but not necessarily following the indian totems.

True, but there are still practitioners of the dark arts, or so
my friends (some of which are wiccan), tell me.
