Hey Guys, can some of you please help me out with some
examples of Physical Damage and Stun Damage?

Physical:
Light:
Moderate:
Serious:
Deadly:

Stun:
Light:
Moderate:
Serious:
Deadly:

Drain (Stun):
Light:
Moderate:
Serious:
Deadly:

Drain (Physical):
Light:
Moderate:
Serious:
Deadly:

It's a lot more effective to tell player, I think,
that their character suffered a specific TYPE of
injury or Stun Damage than to just say, "you take
Moderate Damage," or "you take Light Stun Damage". But
I'm at a loss as to what might constitute the
different types of damage. And what would make sense?
I mean, for example, someone who takes serious damage
from a stab wound would suffer blood loss ,and maybe
go into shock, but they wouldn't get a broken arm.

Thanks for your help.

The Shadowrun damage system:

10 paper cuts = death
1 nuclear weapon at ground zero = death

It's an abstract system. Don't think about it so much.

It is _quite_ abstract, in my games:
a serious wound is an "eventually deadly" wound, if you don't get medical
attention in a few hours or a few days (depending on the wound) you'll end
up killing yourself. (I think this is nonstandard, but I like it so I've
kept it)
A light wound would start at a poor slash with a knife (rather than a paper
cut, which I'd consider a "role playing wound", but that's up to GM. I do
this because I don't think 10 paper cuts will kill you, but 10 knife
slashes might)
So for the same knife fight, a moderate wound would be a stab to a nonvital
area or a solid slash, and a serious wound would be a stab to something
important (liver?)

For gunshots...
L: I've always had a hard time describing a "light wound" from a gun, it's
usually "ouch, that hurt (and shall leave a nasty bruise, which is
currently bleeding) - good thing you were wearing a bullet proof vest"
M: shot in the arm/leg/shoulder
S: shot in the torso, lots of blood either coming out or sloshing about inside
D: good body shot or head shot

for backlash from spells, I've always just described the effect as their
head feeling fuzzy, like it's filled with cotton balls, kinda like a really
sever case of the disconnected feeling you get from cold medicine

For Drain you could think about:

Somebody notices a vein in your eye has popped
A drop of blood from the nose
A nosebleed that won't stop flowing
Stabbing pain in the head
Loss of balance (you feel like you're falling backwards, all the time)
Or maybe.. A limb doesn't respond

I assume you would use these thinks for physical, allthough the eye
and nosebleed could be servere stun.

Scott, has anyone ever told you that you're kinda an- er, obsessive?
:)

> Physical:

These are so dependent on wound type that it would difficult to give a
meaningful response.

> Stun:

Again, depends a lot on how you got it.

sleep or like you've just run a very long way.

Mostly just degrees of feeling, you know, *drained*. :) Just like in
real life.

> Drain (Physical):

I'd probably color these according to spell type as well. Burns,
nosebleeds, muscle strains, etc, etc.

But mostly I'd follow the advice of the other guy that replied, and
remember it's all pretty abstract, and just not to worry too much
about it.

According to Joseph Cotton, on Monday 29 November 2004 17:46 the word on
the street was...

I think I tried to say that a bit more subtly once, but I don't think he
got the message :)

The easiest solution is to simply use whatever pops into your mind, and
seems right. "You take a Light wound -- the burst of SMG fire mostly goes
wide, but one of the bullets grazes the skin on your left arm" or "Pretty
much all the shotgun's pellets hit your leg, all but amputating it and
leaving you with a Deadly wound. Roll Willpower to stay conscious."
