Ummm
ok.
I am trying desperatly to round up another player for my group
tommorow, as everyone except two people bailed on me.
I asked my sister if she would consider playing, She asked me if it had fairies.
I told her I would look into it.
So uhhh.. Are there fairies in the world of 2070?

As playable characters? No. You could certainly have a fairy-like free spirit or
something, though.

SURGE, a kind of random metamorphosis described in the Year of the
Comet sourcebook. A SURGEd elf might become a fairie of some sort. I´m
not really sure if it would actually fly, but that´s where magic might
come.

I am fairly certain there are homosexuals in 2070.

I agree that playing it as a free spirit would be the way to go. Feh, I
don't see why your sister couldn't play that. Give the 'fairy' a Flaw like
an allergy to cold iron, at least as a classic fairy, I think. Or maybe
being linked to some kind of element and environment. Like maybe a forest
fairy who's linked to a 'fairy ring' of toadstools and the like. Or a fire
fairy who can cast a variety of fire spells but has a severe allergy to
water.
As for this business of "fairies not being playable characters", I say
whatever the group has no problem with are playable. The bottom line is to
have fun. Heck, if you could play werewolves & vampires, et al, why not
fairies??

Now over with the RPG Torg, out of its Aysle book, they had character
sheets for playing various types of fairies, but then with Torg you can
play pretty much anything you can envision.
Man I love multi-genre games!! =)

Have fun,

Oh, and another thing, way back in the ancient past of the same world of
Shadowrun, as I recall in the 3rd Age called Earthdawn, there were beings
named Windlings. These were pretty much fairies. Now trolls and elves and
orks and dwarves have Awakened, so why not windlings, in your game world?
All you'd have to do is figure out the conversion. Anyone?

I remember that Bull had a Sprites playable race up on the HHH, but that was
for second edition, so if you do manage to track a copy down, it might need
some fudging for 4th Ed.. (I'd offer to help, but as I've not managed to
play any 4th Ed, I'm still kinda stumbling through the system changes :( )

They're in the European Critter book and are called Pixies, I think.

They're in the Critters booklet too:
"SPRITE
These small humanoids fly on iridescent wings and ppear to use primitive
tools. They greatly resemble the fairies, pixies, and sprites of European
mythology."

street was...

Yes. However, they're all critters that you can't play as PC's, if
that's what she had in mind ...

Check Paranormal Animals of Europe (OK, so that's an SRII/SR3 book) for
three different faeries (after all the other critters) and sprites
(which are SR's version of Earthdawn's windlings, but they're not
technically faeries in SR, just regular critters).

Yeah, that's them. I believe there's even an interesting hint in the
comments section that hints at them being Windlings, right?

Awesome! thanks for all the info!
She isn't looking to play one, but to maybe have one as a familiar, or
bound spirit.

Actually, they were up on Dumpshock via my website (THough HHH may
have linked them or even hosted a copy of them at one point, it's been
a LONG time and my memory is faulty these days :))

I did update all my races for 3rd ed... You can find them at:
http://bull.dumpshock.com/sr/races.html

The Sprites (aka Earthdawn Windlings) are at:
http://bull.dumpshock.com/sr/sprite.html

Looking them over, they seem like they'd need very minor tweaking to
redo as an SR4 race.

I have some (very) loose plans to go through and update all that stuff
for SR4 (And clean up the layout and color scheme and such) at some
point, but that's "Coming Soon"... aka, whenever I get the time and
motivation :)

In that case, provided she plays a magician, you could have one or more
of her summoned spirits appear like a traditional faerie.
