OK, I don't think anyone has asked the ultimate Geek-Fanboy question yet,
so I'll "force" myself to do it.

FASAMike, what's it like working for a "Great Big Game Company?"

Or to be more precise, what exactly is a regular work day like for a
"Product Line Coordinator?"

Just curious, that's all ... :-)

I also have a question about SR for Mike. It's kinda an ED question
too. Was Earthdawn a thought when you guys were making SR? Or did it
just kinda fit in later? I've never seen a 1st edition SR book, so I'm
not sure what that was like, but it seems like ED was already thought of
by the time SR2 came out. I'm pretty sure that there was nothing for ED
before SR2, is that right? Just kinda curious. :)
Thanks

SR2 predates Earthdawn by at least 5 years... (I think)

The origins of Shadowrun, IIRC,
FASA was working on their cyberpunk game for a while (sorry I can't
define that amount if time) when one of the developers (Paul Hume maybe?)
one day arrived at the office with a copy of Borderland (created by Terri
Windling & Mark Alan Arnold) which has a picture of elves on motorcycles
on it and said he wanted that in the game. He was quickly scoffed at. Two
days later the others returned with concepts of how to include magic into
their original pure cyberpunk game. That was when the fantasy elements of
Shadowrun became integrated into it.
If it wasn't for Borderland, we wouldn't have Shadowrun as we know
it today. Earthdawn was made much later with Shadowrun's concepts in mind.

A year at most. I bought my copy of SRII (released in 1992) at a con
around this time of year in 1993, and FASA had flyers for ED there
(with one of the parts of the intro adventure).

I'm sure it's a lot better than the general assistant and piss boy
position he held before. (Is Randall still alive?)

IIRC, ED was not intended to share SR's universe until late in it's
development. I still remember when SR's 'horrors' were aliens from
space, the original reason for no magic in space.

What do you mean you remember it? When where there 'horrors' in SR before
ED?

Bottled Demon had the first hint of something dark going on with the
return of magic. That is the first reference I can think of. And that
same talisman apparently found it's way into the Denver sourcebox.

It did? I never did get the chance to read the Denver book. How did it
make it's way back?

Hmmmm.... Seems like longer between ShRII and the Earthdawn Flyers....

Ho-hum....

Mind you, there was another 1 or 2 year gap between the flyers (which
turned out to use different rules anyway), and the actual main book...

Gamemaster book p.34 option C for the Phoenix. The shop had it (or
it's twin) a few months earlier they had it and another ancient artifact
(an axe-head).

Denver came out years after Bottled Demon so I read that as
afterwards. The description of the idol reads the same. You play

And as for the UB, why should I have learned anything from it?
I never read it....

I think I'm going to have to re-read those Denver books... That talisman
popping up in Denver could make for a good reason to get my players in an

That would be about right... SRI in 1989, ED in 93, makes four years.

The thing IS an ancient artifact.

The bottle out of 'Bottled Demon', though the rules in the

horrors.

Oh?!, thats certainly not 'published official', unless its hidden in
some KAGE issue someplace.

The origonal 'horror' was the bottle out of bottled demon which FASA
said they would come back to.
According to the answer i got to the 'magic in space' debate the
horrors do not come from space according to officialdom (though that
might have changed i sure don't remember any source for them being
printed in SR and my sources say that ED lists their source as the
deep metaplanes, though i've not read the right ED books)
If you have nay info it would be of interest, though 'out of date
warnings' would be required where applicable. If the truth has been
changed over the years by FASA it would explain why putting together
based on clues is only 'pretty accurate'.

ED came out well after SR2 though had undoubtably been 'in the works'
for well over a year before it got published, i think i once saw a
date but cannot remember.

It's in the GM's book under a talismonger IIRC.
