[...crossposted to both ShadowRN and PLOT-D...]

Ok, with 230 people subscribed to SHADOWRN and ~40 or so on PLOT-D, I got
to thinking that perhaps we should write up some kind of a FAQ for each
list. Topics include:

SHADOWRN:
Where to get the NAGEE
What is a THWAP (including Doc Doom's wonderful history lesson)
Who is DLoH
Whatever other things come up all the time.
It would be posted probably bi-weekly.

PLOT-D:
What storylines have been done to death (example, kidnappings)
What races have been done to death (example, vampires)
How to get into a storyline
How evil encryptions really are
Whatever

In any case, I'm not going to write up all of the FAQs this time. I'll
post them (I'm workign on writing up some programs that will
automatically do the posting, if I can find a man page for inews), but I
want it to include comments from other people as well (sort of like when
we revamped the ShadowTalk FAQ).

In any case, I'd like to see a little discussion about this and would
like to get the documents compleated BEFORE I have to edit the TOME
(voting on the tome will take about a month or two).

Esentially, these documents should be just as they suggest, 'FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS'. Consider anything that has been asked often and know
that it is a candidate.

Here's a thought. (duck!)

Let's have the LISTSERV mail the FAQ to the newbie when they send the
subscribe command. Start this FAQ version with "YOU MUST READ THIS"
across the top. Hidden somewhere in the FAQ, like at the end, would be
the command to send to the LISTSERV to confirm their subscription. This
would probably be best for SHADOWTK, since after the summer all the newbies
show up and can't post themselves out of a donut.

Whatcha think?

Yes, it is to my liking and is precisely what I was looking for. Anyone
else?

Please don't take this as a snide remark, it's meant in a spirit
of honest helpfulness:

I would like to offer my services to perform a grammar and spelling
check on the FAQ that is produced, before it's finally postedt to the
mailing list.

I'm sure you would be pleased with the result.

something that occurred to me,

the faq for the mailing list is, I think, pretty important for all the
members to have read, but on the jackpoint.org page, one can subscribe
without ever seeing a hyperlink to it. the only time I think I ever see it
mentioned is your .sig, but only sometimes.

I just thought it would abnegate many future list problems if at some
point, subscribers got urged to "read the FAQ! click here!".

luck to you,

--Neil
