Oh boy, you folks *may* owe me big time...

I was given NO DETAILS!!! but I just received a slightly cryptic e-mail
directing us all to check their web site on a regular basis over the next
few weeks for future details about how to possibly obtain a hardback copy
of SR3.

What this means:

SR3 will be available outside of GenCon. Price and availability have yet
to be determined.

IF you have already worked out a means of obtaining SR3 from a GenCon
attendee, as I have, stay with that plan. There are lots of folks,
especially some rather grouchy ones from England, that really have no
GenCon friends and so can only obtain it this way.

And finally, all of this could come crumbling down. IT MAY NOT HAPPEN!!
But at this juncture, it would appear that FASA has heard our cry and is
responding.

So keep checking FASA's site right through GenCon to see what the deal is.
If I'm given the scoop prior to that, I'll pass it along to the list.

I am pretty sure that FASA is opening the "buy-direct" door on their web site
and will offer it that way. A lot of companies are now spending time and
resources to offer the cosumer an oppertunity to buy product directly from
them.

Not a bad idea IMHO, considering just how badly the distribution net work is
failing.

I got this same message. I think this is there stock reply to anyone who
sent them mail. At least I assume so. I don't really have any special pull
with FASA or anything; as far as they're concerned, I'm just some shmuck who
sent them mail. Here is the message (with corrected spelling):

Similar. Here's a copy of what I was sent.

No details yet but people should keep checking the web site for future
details.

See we do listen.

So it's about the same thing; same message anyway.

According to their current web site, yes, they will be allowing direct
purchase via the Internet, for all their products eventually(currently?).
I don't think they anticipate selling large numbers direct, though it
should make it easier for people without easy access to game stores to
purchase FASA products.

The SR3 hardback issue will likely be a bit like the SR:TCG NERPS promo
card deal. A limited time offer made available via the Internet. In fact,
this promo was something I referenced to them.

The distributor for All Star Games seems to be great and service them just
fine.

But online direct sales is another means for FASA to make money; if they
can get online secured transactions going, they should pull down a few
extra cash dollar bills every month. It also means they don't have to rely
so heavily on the channel or their distributers.

Stay tuned folks.

What you do not hear is the horror stories from the manufacturers and other
game shops. As a reatiler I have been told out right lies about product
availability amoung other things.

A few manufacturers I know have not been paid by certain distributors that
shall remain nameless for the product that has already been sold. FASA may not
be encounter such problems, or if they are they are not publically talking
about it.

I still remember when Games Workshop decided to go solo. David Kingston was
head of trade sales at the time and told me that they were upset when they
called up one of their wholesale accounts and were told "We're sorry, we do
not need to order your product, magic is making money for us this week." I
imagine FASA may have heard something similar once upon a time.

Actually, I got a message saying that there were currently no plans to
make the HB available from their Web Site ... Didn't say to check it
later on or anything ... :/

Another factor is that it REALLY helps the gameshops(like Hobbymasters
around here) get things which are GOING to be hot sellers, simply by
using direct-buying from FASA..
which is something I would suggest to gameshops to supplement
distributors.
