Hopefully I'm not repeating anything thats been posted a ton of times. But
I noticed that a lot of people are saying that they can't find the new
books at book stores. There is a reason for this. Fasa has taken back
distributorship <I hope thats the right term> from ROC. Seems that a lot
of game stores were complaining that bookstores are getting the books
before them. So now with Fasa handling it again Game Stores will have them
first <usually by a factor of about 1 to 2 months>.. So if your local book
store doesn't have the books in stock yet try hitting up your local game
store.

That also explains why bookstores where I live don't carry them at all
anymore. They do have ROC-books, but none of the more recent FASA
releases (after Worlds Without End) have shown up.

Once again proving that the only thing FASA cares about is lining it's
pockets(not that I'm surprised). Because my problem, and the problem of
many of us complainers out there, is the fact that there are no local
gaming stores. I live in Daytona(FL), and there are 3 locally that I've
been to. One is a more of a hoppy shope that only really sells used
games(They have rifts and RM out the wazoo, but give you strange looks
when you ask about SR), the other is more of a card shop(Ugg.. CCGs) and
any RPG books you want you have to order(paying for half in advance)-
and I don't buy books sight unseen, call it a character flaw. The third
"Gaming" store is really more of a comic store and again, anything that
they don't have(which is just about anything in regards to SR) you have
to order- site unseen. Now, don't get me wrong, this is not a bad deal
if I'm ordering a novel- but let's say a book just as bad as "The Art of
Shadowrun" were to come out- I like to have the option of flipping
through a book going "Yep this sucks" and being able NOT to buy if I
don't want. If FASA would ship to bookstores(which we have plenty of)
at the same time as bookstores, then their more loyal(but less
fortunate) customers like me could enjoy their products with everyone
else. Until then, we get to feel left out.
Am I anti-FASA? No, of course not. Just
anti-corps-being-greedy-bastards, like any good 'runner :)

Well, then you should be anti-bookstores :)

It's not FASA's fault that book stores don't want to carry RPG
products.

As for buying sight unseen, see if any of your local book stores have
a return policy. If one of them does then start ordering FASA
products through them.

I don't follow your logic. This is how things originally were. THen
ROC took over, and my gaming store stopped getting them. (The
bookstore did, but I didn't have a
standing-order-call-me-when-its-in-and-give-me-10%-off deal there).

Now that they've reverted, both the gaming store and bookstores carry
it. If it's different in your area, talk to the bookstore.

While I won't say FASA isn't interested in money, I don't see any
greedy-screw-the-players actions here...

This has to do with what has to be considered a limited market at best.
The number of copies that can be expected to sell is going to be a very
real factor. While people like ourselves (Members of this mailing list)
can and do enjoy RPG's this is not so for mass marketing. Even "Main
Stream" Science Fiction and Fantasy are just now getting prime shelf
space. Unless a drastic change happens and RPG's become a great deal
more popular you can not and will not see book stores giving them large
amounts of space and/or priority treatment.
