I don't remember this question ever coming up before, but I may have
missed it in the past. It's stated that a spell, when cast using a
disposable fetish, is cast at two levels higher than normal. Now when the
spell is cast, does the magician still take the same level of drain? iow,
if a mage casts a level 2 spell using a disposable fetish, thereby making
it a level 4, does he take drain for a force 2 spell or a force 4 spell?
I need to find out, because I have a phys mage with only 2 points of magic
left to cast spells, and i need to know if it's worth it to make a spell
fetish required if he's going to wind up taking physical drain anyways.

There's been a quite a discusssion about this recently. The drain is
based off of the origional force i.e.: Before the the Fetish bonus is
applied.

Enjoy.

You must have missed it, there's been a whole other thread going on
over this same topic.

According to SRII, in the section about Restricted Use spells (i.e. -
exclusive and fetish requiring), it explains that for purposes of
determining spell effect you use the modified force ot the spell.
However, drain is still resisted at the orginal force.

The expendable fetish adds 2 to the Force for everything except
determining Drain (reusable fetishes add 1). For example, if you learn
Mana Bolt at Force 2 with an Expendable Fetish requirement, you roll 4
dice (plus Magic Pool) and the target resists 4S damage, but you only take
2S Stun Drain.

If you don't mind being only able to cast a single spell at a time, also
take exclusivity on your spells (on top of the expendable fetish) -- that
way you get a Force 6 spell for Force 2 Drain.
