A helical magazine is one where the rounds are stacked in the magazine in
a spiral-shape. It's pretty hard to describe or draw in ASCII, but I'll
give it a try ("===" and "O" represent a round of ammunition in the
drawings).

I guess you could compare it to those spiralling ramps in a parking
garage: imagine the whole ramp is filled with cars wanting to get out of
the building; these are the rounds, and the exit of the garage is the
opening in the magazine. Only one car (round) can go out of the garage
(magazine) at a time, after which the cars (rounds) behind it can move
forward a bit.
