Ok,

Got a brand new player coming on board. Shes not at all familiar with the
cyberpunk/shadowrun concept or even rpg's. What one movie would you
recomend her to watch.

So far i got the folowing on my list:

1) Johny Mnemonic
2) Matrix
3) Hardware
4) Strange Days
5) Ghost in the matrix

Your thoughts??

How about one of the best Shadowruns ever put on film, Ronin?
You've got fixers, riggers, sams, johnsons and an
unknown target. What's in the box? Who works for who? Everyone
wants it, none of the runners have a clue as to what it really is.
Betrayal on all sides and one kicking car chase down the wrong side of
traffic.
Plus it's got Robert Deniro and Jean Reno. It's a must for our
gaming group. You don't need the sci-fi or magic to have an
excellent run. And Sean Bean gets ambushed by a cup of coffee.

CRYSTALS. Now let's watch as they go to warp!"

You also can't forget "The Usual Suspects", not really a futuristic movie,
but like with Ronin it contains all of the other elements of Shadowrun as
well as being a damn fine movie.

most good SR movies are either good for that CP feeling, or good to learn
about teams and planning.
bladerunner
strange days
johnny mnemonic
and,... well,.. matrix might give you some clues about it too

If you want to see, what SR will look like,...
watch films like

If you want to know what it is like to be a professional shadowrunner,...
watch films like
leon
ronin
heat
sneakers
the usual suspects
bladerunner (one of those few films, that fits in both groups)

just to name a few

I'd add the Robocop films, "Mission: Impossible The Movie" (it's not exactly
cyberpunk, but it helps illustrate how a team of Shadowrunners might work),
"Ghost in the Shell".

Johny would definately be my choice for most SR like film. I think he makes
an excellent decker and the other elements (weapons, cyberware, gangs) just
accent the point...
