Hey. Let's set aside on day for the Flame War. Just to get rid of a bunch
of stress that a lot of us have had lately.
Just a thought.

I was once on a BBS (now defunct) which had an area set aside
specifically for people to flame their friends -- in other words, you
could flame people all you wanted, and know that they wouldn't hold it
against you later. Lots of mindless fun....

Right now, I feel like flaming the living Hell out of somebody.
Any suggestions? (And, yes, I _know_ I should chill out, take a valium,
get laid, whatever.)

Wow. My quoter just went insane...

ANYWAY, why not flame the Green Card Lottery people? Too anonymous?
Still, it ought to be fun to send fun letters (with false titles) to their
other accounts, which I didn't save by the way...but I saw them once.

I sent them a nice, polite letter after I realized they'd sent
that damned thing to every single newsgroup, asking them to never do that
again. Since I'm not a 100% nice guy, I sent it cc: the root at that
site, who probably already knew about it. (Can you imagine how long it
must've taken to send a message like that? There were never more than two
or three groups per message-id!)
I liked the idea of one guy, who said to just simply forward them
a copy of the letter every time anybody saw it, so that they might realize
the enormity of their mistake.

Guys, the site which offers services to the "Green Card" posters went
down once already under the "you're morons!" type mail the the posters.
Unfortunately, the posters are lawyers. that's right, lawyers. When the
site providing them service threatened to cut them off, they responded by
threatening to sue for $250,000 for possible lost business.

We need to start exterminating.

Since the site is unable to punish (or unwilling to face a possible lawsuit)
the offending people, it might very well be useful to warn them of an
'internet boycott'. that way they could prepare as best they could. However,
don't really expect them to punish the lawyers... who can? No other lawyer
would try, IMO.

Lawyers - an institution by and for their own furthering.
Shoot on sight.

Actually, there are lawyers out there who will help you sue other lawyers for
malpractice!!!! And they say there's no honor among THEIVES!!!!

Hey, if it wasn't for lawyers who would be left to take the money from court
cases that actually get won?? Surely not the people who won the money (this is

net.newbies and common flamers, stop reading now!

I've discovered that someplace in GopherSpace lies a file of the
complete works of Shakespeare, which takes up more than five megabytes.
If you telnet directly to a gopher site, it'll say its from the gopher,
not from you.
Now, I don't suggest you do this lightly. Save it for when
somebody's harassing you, or harassing a list you're on (which rarely
happens here, thanks to quick action from our Fearless Leader and DEATH.)

Excuse me for breaking into this thread, but what does the complete works
of Shakespeare have to do with flames and/or harassment?

(I think it is a good thing that immortal works are available on the
net.)

Hell, if the site owners get enough complaints of harrassment, etc., they
ought to be able to justify withdrawing services.

On the Green Card thing...

Just realize that actually sending stuff to the account they used, or
the postmaster thereof, is useless. They already disabled the account, and are
getting sued for it (breach of contract or something). They apparently have
gotten several hundred megs of mail through it...they said at least 30000 mess-
ages.

In other words, flame them at their other accounts, where they still
HAVE accounts.

Oooh... a cracker, uh?? Well, better watch out, Dodger. Port 25 _can_ be

Sorry, I didn't save the accounts. I SHOULD have.

I think it was on one of the comp.sys.ibm.pc.games groups that it was
said. Scan 'em for Green Card Lottery responses...

have I ever attempted to crack a system.

And even if you DO cover aeverything, it can still be traced.

Besides, it's far from original, and I actually consider it to be an
elementary-school level hack. I'm far from impressed

Now, manipulating /dev/nit WAS an interesting hack, although that one's
been mostly dealt with by the CERT advisory (although even that took
eight months to come about).

As for the greencard lawyers and their carpet bombing of usenet, that has
been dealt with. They'll probably be disbarred. I'd say they filed suit
as a knee-jerk reaction.

And if someone REALLY pisses you off, there's all those anonymous mail
forwarding services that would handle Shakespeare's works very nicely....Oh, a
few megs of email can cause accounts to exceed their quota quite quickly.

Just do a Veronica search (avaliable from almost every large
Gopher site) for the word "Shakespeare," and it'll show up, as well as
many smaller files with the same information.
There are even a few places where you can _search_ through the
works for specific words, phrases, etcetera.
