OK, I've been vaguely following this thread for a while now, and Steve K.'s
post about Force Points has prompted me to post my own opinions...

OK, first off, I really don;t like the idea of Phys-Ads getting free Force
Points to bond Foci. Why? Becuase, they become freebie points and there's
no reason a Phys-Ad SHOULDN'T start with a Weapon Focus. Mages have to
take away from their Force Points to do ths, which means they end up with
fewer spells. What does a Phys-Ad give up? Zip. Except some cash, and
whazt's a Phys-Ad got to spend cash on? All the expensive stuff is cyber,
so he doesn;t need to buy that...

Also, I don;t really think Phys-Ads are really any weaker than your typical
sammy, unless the sammy is maxed out with cyber and bio. And in the long
run, Phys-Ads can get damned powerful, whereas Sammies hit a certain pint
where they can;t add any more "powers", i.e. Cyberware, because of the
whole essence issue. Unless somehow they can afford Beta or Delta ware and
you allow Cybermancy. It's all in how you build the character.

Personally, I don;t allow mages or Phys-ads (or Shamans:)) to start with
Foci of any ind. Just my personal preference, though. But, I don;t see
any reason that PA's can;t start with one, provided that they are govong up
something, somewhere, to gain those force points. I dont want them to be
freebie points.

Under the standard Point System from the Compainion, I'd allow a PhysAd to
buy Force Points. But they don;t start with any. Only Spellcasters get
Forcepoints to start with. But, they can get them at the One Build Point
for 2 Force Points. That way, the PA is taking away points that are used
in another area to get a powerful item.

Just the way I'd do it...

This reminds me of someone (sorry I can't recall whom) posting something to the
list about a system wherein Force Points (not Magic attribute) determined a
physad's points with which to buy powers. In this instance, not only do we
have physads with a simpler way to gain powers than slow initiation (and all
their powers being bought in increments of 1 after chargen), but they can 'give
up' some access to more powers in order to get a focus. New powers would be
bought with Karma, like skills, with a cost equal to their price in Force
points at chargen.

And now I will go further off on a tangent and add to this:
What if (as another poster suggested) a physad can only have *active* a number
of power points equal to his Magic, but could have learned more and switch them
in and out via a ritual? This would mean that those who buy many Force points
(and lots of powers with them) still have a limited repertoire at any time,
thereby keeping them balanced. Sound workable? I like it better than the
'everyone gets 6 points at chargen', and the only way of gaining new powers
being Initiation of the current system.
