Actually, if I have my way, Foretelling will become a metamagical technique
in SR3 (currently called Divining) and work quite similarly to the Ancestral
Spirit power in Cyberpirates. The spell will just go away (hopefully).

Sounds like your planning on expanding metamagic quite a bit in the
near future. Might be a good argument to make gradual initiation
"the standard", and define concrete rules for it. (The SR comp helped
as I recall). This would also give players a reason to seek
out particular groups if they wanted to learn a technique.

Oh geesh, I can see it now...groups such as Mike's "the Mechanics" have
several strange little techniques thrown into their design...'task pool' for
build/repair, magical training in magical b/r....Enhanced Centering for
Technical, B/R and Design oriented skills...yep...things seem like they've
been done before.

And that's not even counting the "known" Metamagics....

heh..I didn't say it would be pretty. Arguments have constantly been
thrown back and forth, and most agree initiation gives you
too much power all at once. House rules abound for fixing this.
If SR3 makes more metamagics, it will only add fuel to the fire.
Besides, I've had several fun adventures just watching a character
trying to find someone to teach him some of teh cooler metamagic
techniques.

On a different note, the same was said about aircraft carriers when they were
first introduced into the various navies at the onset of the idea of the
aircraft carrier ...
