Not that it's all that big of a deal, but I found an online definition of a
shotgun:

Shotgun: A gun with a smoothbore that shoots cartridges that contain "shot"
or small metal pellets (of lead or steel) as the projectiles.

And this:

Shotguns have a similar external appearance to rifles, but differ in the
lack of rifling inside the barrel, which is the basis for their legal
definition. A shotgun shell may contain one large projectile (called a
slug), a few pellets of large shot, or many tiny pellets. Shotguns are
available in single shot (break action), double barrel, pump action, and
semiautomatic.

If you're looking for a reference, here's the link:

http://telpath2.med.utah.edu/WebPath/TUTORIAL/GUNS/GUNTERM.html

(Don't accept anything as gospel, but I just looked this up to double-check
on my own personal sanity.)

Thank you for your time.

Do you mean http://www.mossberg.com/pr_slugsyst.htm ?

That's actually exactly what I was looking for. I was under the impression
that no shotgun had a rifled barrel, but Bai Shen was convinced that there
were. (And that you could interchange them). I hadn't found a reference
anywhere for them. I wasn't aware of their existence, and thought they would
be uncommon at best. (Perhaps in assault shotguns). But, now at least I know
they exist. :)

By the way...mossberg is weird. (Not necessarily a bad thing).

Thing is, from reading this article, they don't talk
about the rifled barrel much at all. Almost like its a standard feature.
This makes me think that they are pretty common or at least easy to get
if you want them.

The reason they don't talk much about the rifled barrel is becaus=
e,
quite frankly, most shotguns are sold for skeet shooting and bird hunting=
.
Imagine what a mess shot shells make of finely machined rifling... and it=

doesn't enhance the hit potential of the shotgun.
The only reason you'd want to use a rifled barrel is if you're
using slug shells exclusively. You'll get maybe +100-200 fps muzzle
velocity over your standard smoothbore barrel, but again, it doesn't much=

change the accuracy of the firearm at the ranges you're likely to use it.=

In part, this is because slugs have lands and grooves (rifling) of their
own, in order to provide the stabilizing spin necessary with a smoothbore=

barrel.
And, as far as I know, there's only one reason to have a slug-onl=
y
shotgun, and that's urban combat / self defense. Of course, that's all th=
at
Shadowrunners are interested in... I've never heard of a shadowrun where
all the runners did was go out and hunt quail... <g>

That is probably the exact address yes, I got lazy, and figured the whole site
could be useful anyway. As general shotgunning stuff.
