On November 12, Microsoft Corp. filed a trademark application with the U.S.

Patent and Trademark Office for the Shadowrun mark. Although this doesn't confirm a game
is in development, it is a positive sign for those waiting for a Shadowrun game.

This application by Microsoft represents the first time the software giant has made a move
regarding Shadowrun.

Shadowrun is a fictional universe that was introduced as a role-playing game

(RPG) by FASA Corporation in 1989.

There have been tons of letters, petitions, mails, and forum threads requesting a
videogame based on the franchise.

OK, WHY would MS care about the SR logo? Am I missing something obvious or
just need my AM cofee to kick in?

It means one of two things to me - either MS has a
Shadowrun game in the works (probably for XBox) or it
is just getting prepared to sell the rights to another
party. Just my 2¥ worth...

I've heard rumors (coming from a relatively trustworthy informer of
French website Xboxyde) that the line-up for the Xbox Next (Xbox2 /
Xenon / whatever) would include a RPG called Shadowrun, developed by
FASA Studios.
If that's true and the game is any good, they've got at least one
buyer for that console.

FASA Studios? That seems a little bit fishy- didn't FASA go under a while
back? Does MS own the brand name? If so, I suppose they could set up a
subsidiary and use the FASA name for it.

FASA Studios (ex-FASA Interactive) still exists, and belongs to
Microsoft. Any recent game based on a FASA franchise was made by them.
Among their latest productions are MechCommander 2 (PC -- brilliant),
MechAssault (Xbox -- haven't played it but I'm told it's good) and
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (Xbox -- very good). They've almost
completed developing MechAssault 2, which will be one of the last
first/second-party games for the Xbox 1.
These guys are skilled, so if they're given a Shadowrun console game
to make, I trust them to make it a good one. *crosses fingers*

I don't own any sort of game machine (other than my
trusty PC), but I would buy a console for this game
alone if it is any good.

More importantly - HOW? Isn't the SR logo owned and trademarked by
either FASA, Wizkids or Fanpro? Or does the page mean something
different when it says "mark"

Oh, damn, I'd have to bite the bullet and buy one of them, too. So, stupid,
since the xbox is a PC inside, anyway. Grrr...I hate consoles.

Actually, the game will be coming out on Xbox Next, which is
definitely not a PC.
It's a Mac. :-D

Well, all we know right now is that there are development tools available
for the mac. Anything other speculation is a tad premature
