Haha! One of the many(yeah right) advantages of living in Quebec...
William, could you please (if you can) post the compagny (probably
Hexagonal) who publishes the sourcebook, and the product code? Not
only would that help me order it, I'm sure other list members would
be interrested...I think...

The company editing it is Jeux Descartes. For the product code, I'll try to
find it ...

I have begun reading the France sourcebook. I have not finished so I'll
tell you about what I've seen.
At first, I'll tell you about the sourcebook in itself and then about its
content.

ABOUT FRANCE SOURCEBOOK (FROM JEUX DESCARTES)
There have been 3 attempts to write this sourcebook until one succeeded.
The fact that it is the result of three different authors makes it contain
some opposed statements (as for the political power for exemple). Because
Jeux Descartes (the french editor of SR) has only translated old
sourcebooks, it has the electronic like presentation. Images range from
average to hideous. Finally, the book costs a LOT (around 33$ but costs in
France are almost always high because of the taxes). I think the english
version will cost less (!).

CONTENT OF THE FRANCE SOURCEBOOK (PART 1)
1. HISTORY
During the first pages of the book (after the how to go there part), there
is a historical abstract of events in Europe and the rest of the world (a
smaller part). We learn more about the eurowars and the islamic war.
The important things we learn about France are :
* MATRIX : The gates around France matrix has protected it almost
completely from the virus of '29. This has made France a major player in
the field of matrix technology (see the economical part). They talk about a
special place in the french matrix but I haven't read it at the moment.
* POLITICS : French government is an oligarchy. This oligarchy is made of
french nobles, church archbishops and druids. France has become very
religious and Cathelic Church is very influencial. The political power is
composed by a majority of noble families. In fact, France seems to be very
close to a monarchy (it will soon become one). Druidic religion is accepted
by Catholic Church and the two cooperates peacefully.
* ECONOMICS : France government controls industry in the country. This
makes the corporations' influence a lot less powerful than in UCAS. We
learn that most of the big european corporations have fusioned to be more
powerful and some of them seem to be serious concurrents to the big ones
(in particular fields, not in all of these !). North and South of France
are VERY polluted because France didn't care about environment before too
late. FUSHI has special relations with France (DeVilliers has french
origins) which makes it have more influence than the other corps. RENRAKU
has special accords too but arrived later. Police is a major force in
France which uses some shadowrunners.
* MAGIC : There are many problems.
- Polution has infested many regions with toxic spirits (some with a lot
these beings).
- Broceliande is a highly magic area. Bretagne is the region the more
influenced by druids which maintain special relations with Tir Na Nog. It
is a home of many unicorns and merlin hawks (they are highly protected. It
almost costs less to kill a human than a member of these species).
- Camargue is very natural land with a lot of horses from different species
(including bayards and/or pegasis).
- There is a land with amerindians which gives the France good relations
with the NAN.
- Now the first big one : There is a great great great dragon sleeping in a
volcan. It hasn't wake up to that day and is analysed by many scientists
(magic is a science in France).
- The second one : There is a permanent fog in Bretagne. This fog has many
unpleasant effects. First, no technology is able to function. Second, no
one ever succeeded in going back from there. Magically, it has a lot of
unknown effects. Lofwyr once flyed around it but had to flee (!!!??!).
- I also heard about experiments to try magic beyond atmosphere. Some
results were obtained but strange creatures appeared during the experiment
and destroyed everything.

Here it is for the first part. I'll complete it later but if you already
have questions, ask them. I haven't written everything I read ...

It's one of the very few sourcebook I don't have and I don't want
to have to buy it in french.

Not AFAIK; I'm not even sure if it's available outside France. I'd like to
see an English translation, though, because my French isn't really good
enough to read an entire book (I might just manage a small flyer if it
doesn't contain too many difficult words :)

BTW, why is your system clock 11 years behind?

Well at least it's out in Quebec. I speak french very well but it cost about
twice as much as it would if it were in english.

P.S. The date on my clock system is to fool a 30 days self-terminating program
that I'm to lazy to download again and fix my date.

Price is a real problem for this sourcebook... :(
Actually, it isn't available in english. I think (but I'm not sure, perhaps
Mike could answer) FASA must do some modifications to it before it is edited.
I really hope (for you, 'cause I already have it) the price will be lower.

I hope you speak very well frensh, isn't it your first language ?
