Haven't seen harlequin yet, is it like the fixer Keane in a killing glare?

You would have to pick up magical theory first, have some serious
instruction, probably involoving something akin to religous
conoversion. (if you get what you believe in, on the astral plane
then if you don't really believe you don't get). Pay a bucket load of
karma and even then you might only become an adept. But should an adept
then be able to realise their full potential and after some serious
work become a full mage/shaman.

Thats great, it takes years of study to be level 6, (41 points of karma)
yet a runner could do it in a few months of getting his butt shot at in
alleyways without any study? Why, am I going to university? :) (other than
I like my butt in one piece :) )

Um, no. If you haven't got ahold of Harlequin yet, then I strongly
recommend it. It is kind of a legendary SR adventure. Many of the references
and unusual discussion on here spring from either Harlquin or Harlequin's
Back. BTW, Harlequin is often represented by a "H", and many other obscure
references. And if you're wondering, Harlequin is a rather old elf.
