Sorry about that last post of mine. 1) you can't cancel reply/extract here.
2) once I tried to remove the bits I wanted to remove, it turns out this
term is broken and won't select. Piece of Shit.

Now, as for racism from Insects: I think it's just statistics. Humans
outnumber the other races by a pretty wide margin (except in Srun parties).

What type of system are you on?

VMS. Whenever I'm in mail and type "reply/extract" it brings up the editor
and when I exit it (after making changes in what I'm replying to) sends it
on its merry way. HOWEVER, I can't cancel it--it says "Ctrl-C ignored" even
after 3 or 4 times.

Oh well. Once I figure out Eudora I won't have to play with the term. Of course,
Eudora won't help at home until 1) I get my own machine and 2) they put in SLIP
connections here.

I'm on the same type of machine you are. (I think) All you need to
do is hit Ctrl-Z and then at the * prompt type in "quit" to cancel.
Ctrl-Z and then type in "exit" to send the message. Ctrl-Z and
then type "c" will put you back in the editor if for some reason you
want to do that. (I do, because when someone sends out a message and I
receive it WHILE I'm in edit, it screws up my screen. This will
refresh it.)

Try it. Send a message to yourself and see if it works. I hope I
helped you out!

Cyclops

PS- All the Ctrl-Z combinations above are seperate commands starting
from within the editor.

About the whole reply/ext thing: If you type ctrl-z, it will just send the
message as it. Whoever mentioned ctrl-y was the winner! Congratulations! Only
one other thing though: when you do that, the machine will create a .tjl file
on your account. You don't want those files. Delete them. Ctrl-y will interrupt
just about enything. The ctrl-z stuff holds true for the normal editor, but not
mail (at least not around here).

Exciting stuff, heh? Next week we'll be coving the Commodore 64's basic
functions, stay tuned...

WEll, J, I'd reply to you in person, but I don't have you aliased yet on my
machine.
What you're dealing with is EDT, a line- and full-screen editor for Vax.
What you want to do to get out of the editor is to type CTRL-Z to get to the
command prompt, which is a '*'. Then, type "exit" if you want to keep your
changes, or "quit" if you just want the hell out and don't care what happens.

Try it.

This is a test of the VAX/VMS mail editor.

Just as I expected!

You finish typing your message and hit Control-Z.
This puts you at the * prompt.
Now type exit to send or quit to not send.
Isn't that simple?

Ah, quit. Simple, yes. Known? no. Hey, I'm not required to support VMS. :)
Still, why can't you cancel it?

Ahah. you must be using the EVE editor. (I assume from your comments, anyway.
Has a line near the bottom of the screen saying Buffer: .... in reverse video?)
You can get a command line by sending a ^B to the editor. when you get that,
type quit. It will ask you if you want to abandon the buffer changes. Say
yes.
