According to Rat, at 13:48 on 29 Mar 00, the word on the street was...

In my experience, there are plenty of game stores in the UK, and in many
other cities around the world, but the trouble is actually finding them if
you're not familiar with the city...

Although I'm not a "UKer" (though I'll likely visit the country this
summer) I mail-order most of my RPG books from there. Rest assured there
is plenty of SR stuff to be found.

I can find Wales on the map: I live about 2 hours drive from it!
(In Manchester)
BTW are there any gamers from Manchester on the list?

I can recommend 'Travelling Man' at the Corn Exchange in Leeds,
'Spirit Games' in Burton-on-Trent, and the bizarely titled
'Not Just Stamps' in High Wycombe.

--------

A few more for you:
'Captain SciFi' and 'Captains Log' in Bristol, 'Something Wicked' in
Huddersfield, 'the model shop' in Manchester, 'Fantasy world' in Hanley
(stoke on Trent), 'Orc's nest' in central London, 'Black Lion Games' in
Edinburgh, and my favourite 'interstellar master traders' in Lancaster
(18 inches of shadowrun books :-). There is also another one in London
with a decent web page.

Virgin megastores used to stock some, but the Edinburgh one has had a
clear out (6 adventures for 2 pounds each.)

Then there are the online book sellers (amazon.co.UK has some new
shadowrun stuff.)

The RPGA UK members handbook has a list of UK games shops. You may also
find something on one of the role playing Usenet group archives.

P.S Contact me by email if you need directions. (IMT in Lancaster is
worth a visit, only 5 mins from the M6).

Im in Preston {only about 1 hour from Manchester} if that counts. :-)

Roger.

Incidentally are there any good game stores in Manchester that sell
Shadowrun stuff ?

I was in england a few weeks back
and i had no idee if there was an store that sold rpg's.
Anyone i asked sayed that there where no stors that sold rpg's
so i asked for the local commic store and anyone i asked knew
where that was (but all sayed that it was in difrent directions).

And i ask at the commic store and yes they knew where it was
it had SR and loads of old rpg i never heard of

So the moral of this story: ask for the local commic store
they usialy know if there is an shop that sells rpg's

Technically me and my GM are from the area. I`m from Macclesfield, and
he`s from Altrincham (however you spell it). Unfortunatly, we`re currently
both up in St.Andrews (Scotland) at University. We met there, rather than
in England, tho`.

Ahh, Wales. Spent many a summer there with my parents, mainly the Colwyn
Bay / LLandudno area, and visiting LLanfairPG too (on Anglesey (sp?)).

Went through there on the train on my way back to Uni once...

Sorry, back on-topic now.

The Model Shop used too, I heard that they`re slowly phasing selling RPGS
out though. I could be wrong, since I can`t remember who told me that.
Waterstones (the big one with the coffee shop (Kafka`s) not the one in
St.Anns square), has quite a few. They`re on the top floor, just follow
the Sci-Fi books around for a while (!) and you should find them. They
have quite a few of the novels too.
Virgin used to sell RPGS, but they`ve stopped now. <sulk>

In terms of elsewhere, Highlander Games in Dundee is wonderful for books
(our GM swears he`ll never go there again in case he tries to buy too
much - I think last time he got Mage Limited), and also Magic / Jyhad (or
whatever it`s now called) Cards.

In London, Finchly (Ermm.. East?) Leisure Games is amazing. They sell
Shadowrun CCG, and lots and lots of other stuff. They also deliver via
mail order, and they get books in really quickly.

We got Cannon Campanion yesterday, I liked it for the BTL / Skillsoft
stuff (I`m not playing a Gun Bunny). Deprogramming / Reprogramming? Mmm...
I have Biotech and Psychology. Time to start playing with the team`s
minds.... (ermm not really.)

The summary from our relevant Gun Bunnies was good in general, but nothing
really new (they viewed the book as a rules update). Much bouncing was
done (and drooling) and people started planning (well, Ross did) what
they`d buy next, although Mr.GM-sir has yet to see the book (from current
knowledge).

Downsides? Everyone missed Shadowtalk, and one player missed the pictures
(that was Richard, btw, James.).

Okay, just mho.

You'd have to find my character's brain first... no, use of a Panther
assualt cannon would not help, PLEASE!!!

Oh come on, not only am I creating a new character, everyone has been
telling me to hold off buying guns until the Cannon Companion arrived!

Personally, I don't feel the lack of pictures is an incredible
loss; they're nice, but must be kinda expensive to have done, and take up
a lot of space I'd rather have material in. Shadowtalk was cool, though,
in small doses at least.

One of the other players was moaning that there was not much new, but I
think they kinda missed the point that it was an update, rather than an
add-on. Maybe they just got too much from M&M (which I wish someone else
would get a copy of, as mine is continuing to disintegrate from overuse)!
