OK, since everyone's asking about games in bits of the world that I have
only the fuzziest grasp of:
Does anyone know any games in the Cardiff, Wales area?

In fact, let's be less optimistic here: Does anyone on this list even live
in Wales? Does anyone know any Welsh people? Can anyone find Wales on a map?
;o)

Hey, I've *been* to Wales! I can even find Aberystwyth and
Ystumtuen on a map! I can even *pronounce* them!

No games that I know of, though. Just lots of beautiful
countryside, sheep, words with lotsa L's in 'em, and curmudgeonly
Vespa-riding physics professors.

Oh, and Safeway. Surprised the hell out of me. Never expected
to see a full-service American supermarket out in East Nowhere,
Cymru. :)

Hey, cool! My girlfriend went to Uni in Aber, so I spent a lot of time there
over the last three years. As for the other place, not really sure I could
pronounce it either :o)

Here's a fun game: would anyone else on this board (who doesn't already
know) like to guess how you pronounce Aberystwyth?

Oh yes, I'd second that. Uhh, except about the professor. So how come you
spent time in Aber then?

He he he! I've actually *shopped* there!

Erm... Abercrombie and Fitch?

I'm assuming a Vespa is native to Wales, isn't it?

Does it have the same hellish muzak as in
American supermarkets?

For that matter, I can somehow easily imagine a
British supermarket called Stuffer Shack....

Well, okay, I lied. There were only *two* professors, and only
one of 'em rode a Vespa. We were there to meet up with some folks
we'd met on a 'net motorcycling newsgroup.

And to keep this at least *somewhat* on topic, we saw very few game
stores there (none in Wales, one in London, and I don't think
any others) and no Shadowrun stuff at all. Where do you UKers
buy your SR stuff, anyway?

Vespa is an Italian manufacturer of motor scooters, and has been since at
least the 1950s. You could say they're the Dodge Scoots of the real world,
except they don't look as silly. (Ever sonce buying the RBB, I have
wondered how you actually sit on a Dodge Scoot...)

I can recommend 'Travelling Man' at the Corn Exchange in Leeds,
'Spirit Games' in Burton-on-Trent, and the bizarely titled
'Not Just Stamps' in High Wycombe. There all fairy small independant
game stores, although Travelling Man is a small chain, I believe.
I have bought many up-to-date SR books from all of them and they
have lots of out of print 1st and 2nd Edition. I just got 'Dark Angel'
for £5 :) And the 'Cannon Companion' arrived on the Morning of the
28th of March in Leeds :)

Yeah. I go to the Trading Post in Cardiff, which appears to haven't any SR
stock in since the release of SR3. I'm going to have to look into
internet/postal orders. There's always amazon.co.uk...

I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to believe this is the only gaming
shop in Wales, barring a few GWs. There might be a few more, but I bet
there's not more than half-a-dozen in total.

BTW, Gameskeeper in Oxford is a good shop with some second-hand stuff (got
Denver for £8), but the staff are a bit snooty...

<third party joins in with reeling frolicks> Well I have been to
the Druid Inn. You do get about a bit don't you, Rat
(meant in the nicest possible way :). Anywhere else in the UK
that we may have crossed paths at different times? ;p

Wowsers. Never been in it, but I drove past it everytime I drove to/from
Aber. This is too weird.

Oh, and Rat? Aberystwyth coastline and motorbikes? Nice!

And, as long as we've got a Welshman cornered, how would *you* pronounce
Ysrthgrathe? It's about as close to Welsh as any other language I can think
of. I mean, c'mon, cyw? Dwr? Braf? <grin>

Umm... err.. I'm no expert at this - never got around to learning Welsh to
any level.

But.. I reckon it's <stick toungue out of corner of mouth>
something like Urr-sruth-grahthe.

Well, that's my two nuyen worth, anyway.

Not to be picky here, but is "grahthe" a one-syllable thingy that
sounds a lot like "grath", a two-syllable thing like "grah-the", or
something else?

He he he. In being this picky, I think you're grossly over-valuing my poor
langauge skills.

But I was thinking of "grath" as one syllable. For what it's worth ;o)

Yeah, but that was just the *preliminary* round! If you *really*
want one that's fun, check out:

I'll give a free no-prize to the first brave soul who can
pronounce the one in the top picture!

Well, actually I won't, 'cause *I* can't! :)

He he he. That's the longest placename in Wales, and it's pretty evil. My
girlfriend can pronounce it; not sure I could, though.

BTW, you're correct, that is the entrance to the Old College. Funnily
enough, I recall an afternoon spent through that door, up four floors and
into the computer room, doing ShadowRN all afternoon on a crappy 14" monitor
that gave me a headache. Sigh. Happy times.

Oh, and I can also confirm those roads really are narrow, having experienced
an interesting few seconds during a head-on car crash in the Elan Valley
near there.
