Lady Jestyr commented that a discount for typical gang skills would be WAY too
tempting for most PCs. The thing that immediately came to my mind was that
most ex-gangers are essentially unemployable. I would say to get the ex-ganger
skill package you would need to have no "literate" skills higher than 2 or 3, NO
ettiquette other than street allowed (or only at double price), and some disfiguring
tatoo/ritual scarification/extreame cybermod that instantly brands you as a
ganger, and in fact points to the gang you belong to.

That way your gangers will look like gangers, and act like gangers. I would say
they would have a PERMANENT cap on corp ettiquette until they get some
cosmetic surgery too. Don't go wandering around some other gang's turf,
either...

Of course, I wouldn't allow skill packages in my game anyway, so naturally my
inclination is to make them expensive somehow...

I would agree with that. Also, if a ganger skill package is chosen,
the character cannot pick resources higher than D, and cannot buy a
lifestyle higher than Low. There are ways to balance a skill package
system...
I have always made the characters justify where their resources came
from. A skill package system might be a better way to do that, and
round out the character in a more believable way.

I agree with what you are trying to say, but there are second and first
tier gangs that have lifestyles better off than low...

Only for the major movers and shakers in the gang. Recall the general
description for the intro to the adventure 'Elven Fire'... it wasn't
exactly all glitz and glamour.

If you want to play a major power in a major gang, you'd be welcome to
it; Just imagine how many people would be gunning for you.

A few days back I posted an idea I had for a new char creation system for
SRII, one that I hoped solved some of the problems of char min/maxing,
and (as I have been reading) skills... I never got any comments on it,
but I did not include the entire thing, as it is rather lengthy. If
anyone wants, I'll post the entire thing, (about two pages)... as I would
like some comments on it from people outside my group. Thanx.

I saw it, but it came across with the spacing and tabbing all jumbled
together so it was very difficult to make out or read. If you could attach
it as a document and send it to loki@*******.com so I could better look it
over, I'd be interested.

Thanx!
