Hmmmm... When I read the first message about this topic, I was
all ready to use the argument: "Gas Vents are barrel mounted
accessories, so how could you put more than one on?" This of
course was hampered by the post which reminded me that the gun
has 6 or so barrels (assuming you count each muzzle as a barrel.

I, however, am going to get around this. I don't know that much
about gun 'anatomy', so if I'm way off, so be it. I'm going to
say that the muzzles that spin are so that a single barrel doesn't
overheat because of the friction caused by the passage of the
shells. However, I believe that there is only one firing chamber
in the gun; otherwise you'd be, oh, say, shooting rings of six
bullets at a time instead of one through each muzzle as it passes
in its rotation. (That ran on a bit...) Thus, the Vent would just
vent gas from the chamber--thus you could only have one Gas Vent
system on a minigun.

I'm now preparing for the incoming corrections with my White-out
all ready to paint my screen... ;)

A slight correction to my earlier post.

6,000 rounds/minute is 10 msecs between rounds not 1 msec as I had
mistakenly posted.

It must have been all that Kim Chee last night.

Get out the whiteout... The gas is vented at the end of the
muzzle, not at the chamber. Back to the drawing board...

Here's my idea: How about venting the gas not straight up when
the barrel is at the chamber, but rather calculate where the barrel will
be when the gas is at the muzzle's end. In adition, because of the way
it's held, a minigun should error down, not up (think about vectors).
My apologies to non-Physics-type people.

P.S. If I find myself with too much spare time, I'll calculate the best
angle for the vents.

Ooh...The idea of a mini-gun being anything other than a fixed
mount is ludicrous. The cyclic rate of fire of those things
is so high that (in real life) you would have to have a few
people helping you carry your ammunition.
However, if the character insists on having it man portable...
penalize him if each barrel does not have a gas vent. They operate
at the muzzle, and the further they are down the barrel, the more
effective they are.
Any character desiring to carry such a gun on a run should be made to
pay through the nose for it, for the gunsmithing and for the ammo.
(Besides, real men carry Ingram Smartguns ;-)
