It was great seeing people like you said Bull but we could never talk for
more than 5 minutes at a time before we had to start some event or
seminar.

$18 a night per person for the group i went with. You each get your own
bed with 3 rooms +bath for 5 people in a suite wich is a heck of a lot
better than most motels where your all in one room. And Bull forgot to
mention the great central lounges on each set of floors, just the perfect
place for the list.party:).

Tell me about it... Other than Loki, Caric, and Dvixen, (Who I hung out
with all weekend), and Buck and Mike Paffe (Did we ever agree on a Nickname
for you, pal?:)), who we were in the tourney with, I didn;t really get to
talk to anyone...

We had a four room and it was $18.00 per night as well.

And Yeah, I did fail to mention the Lobbies. my bad. They are spacious,
have a handful of comy couches and chairs, a Microwave, and Beer and Booze
are allowed. Granite and I were talking, and while we had fun at the
Safehouse, it was just too loud and crowded for a decent party, and most of
us just aren't the partying, bar-hopping type. Plus, we could play one
big-ass game of SR...;]

Maybe a nice Team A vs. Team B type run...;] Anyone want to try and plan
to run that next year? maybe 2 GM's to collaborate? :]

Yuppers... I have an Early Bird registration form, and it's like $40.00
for the weekend, and you get a free Gen Con shirt... You need to send it
in before December something...;] That's a few bucks cheaper, anyways...;]

I stayed at the UWM once several years ago, and I don't plan to repeat it.
The weather that year was quite hot, and the rooms were not air conditioned,
so it was quite miserable. Also the commute too and from Mecca cut into
my sleep time (of course, back then I was known to schedule events until
Midnight, and then start again at 8:00 AM - I'm too old for that nowadays).

LOL...Yea.. I know..that message got stuck, and didn't go out before
some of the other ones went..And I made sure that the prices I got
were round trip..SO..You can pretty much count on $1000 [US]..Oh
yea..that reminds me..If I were you I would exchange any money you
are going to before you come here..US banks are not used to
exchanging money and normally give terrible rates..Or at least that
has been my experiance..European banks are much more accustomed to
this and give much better rates..

Ya know, that is odd. I can get from Indianapolis to Rome or Berlin for about
$499 US, with 5 nights in a hotel via the travel agency just a block away.
Wonder if something like this could be arranged for one (or more) of the
european guys/gals for Gencon next year.

We make arrangements over here for ya, might get prices lower (I've noticed
this, prices are lower here...I'm still thinking Australia next year,
remember)....

*snip $1000 for US-Europe.

Last year I inquired about prices for a trip to the US. That included
an airplane ticket Oslo - New York, where a rented car would be
available. A month later would be a ticket Los Angeles - Oslo.
Including a month of car rental (Unlimited range), it didn't come to
more than approximately $3000.

Almost nothing at all! :) Now I didn't go, but it would have been
cool. I would have arranged to meet up with more than a few people I
know over the net while there, too.

Anyway, it depends a lot on where you buy the ticket, if you can get
student moderation, and when. Iceland air often has very cheap
tickets, while British Airways or Lufthansa are more expensive,
for instance, so the company also matters. (Or you could try Kamikaze
Airlines, which is very cheap. (AKA Aeroflot). :)

I believe I have seen prices for a two way ticket to the US ranging
from .. ahm... as low as $300 and as high as $1200, so my best
suggestion is to look around, especially for theme travel agencies.
(Travel agencies arranging trips to just one or two locations. They
usually are a lot cheaper than general agencies.).

Finally, I still haven't seen a date for it.. I'm interested in going
myself, too, see? :)

It's much the same as when I went to the UK last summer -- the boat trip
TO London (boat & train) cost me a lot less than the trip back, using
the same route and the on the exact same ferry...

The USA has lower prices for _everything_. A good conversion guide between
US and European prices is to multiply the dollar cost by at least 1.5 :(

It depends on where you're going. I bet flights to Florida are just as
expensive now as they are during the summer (that's also where I got my
price estimate, BTW: looking at a travel brochure for winter flights to
Florida a few months ago when I was in the dentist's waiting room :) OTOH
few people would want to go to Milwaukee in winter, so prices drop. Why
can't they hold GenCon in January? ;)

Because, Gen Con in 4 feet of snow would suck :]

Trust me, everyone around the Great Lakes in the States (and probably on
the Canadian side of the border too) gets royally buried in flaky white
stuff every winter. Plus the damned whether is VERY unpredictable around
the lakes...

((i.e. It was like 55 F and sunny two days ago. Today there's 12 inches
of snow and it's like 10 F, and miserable. Gotta love those Great lakes
Winters:))

Probably because everyone would be too busy digging themselves out of their
hotels if the city was hit with one of it's famous "January Blizzards".
However, the snowball war that would break out around Gencon (a bunch of
rpgers and too much snow and nowhere to go??? HMMMM)....

They do! sort of:) Its called Winter Fantasy and is held the first week
of Feb:). Sort of a GenCon light. They canceled it for Feb 97 because of
the money problems TSR was having(they host both cons) but IIRC its on
again for 98.
