What to do when a character takes a deadly wound and has to sacrifice a
magic point?

In your example he chose to lower his killing hands. An admirable choice.
So he lost two points of magic in the process. Does this mean he
immediately has one point to spend on new toys? Yes, by the book. Sanity
dictates that he would not immediately be granted new powers. How do you
solve this? When he initiates (if he does, everyone does nowadays) at grade
0, give him his point to play with. If he's already grade 0 or 1 or
whatever, then give it to him the next time he initiates. Makes some sense
that way.

And your phys ad is not better than my samurai, just different. Does your
phys ad carry over 400mp of skills in his skull and have the capacity to
slot more in? Skillwires are a beautiful thing <G>. Maybe ya could beat me
in hand to hand, but I can outperform on a grander scale. Each has it's
bonuses and disads. We go with what we like. :^)

Ya know, one thing peves me about this whole discusion. Nobody has questioned
Paolo's chosing to reduce killing hands. Why should the caracter get to chose
the maner in which deadly damage has fragged his magic? A samurai does not
get to chose which piece of cyber gets fucked whwn he bites a big bullet- why
should a PA get the equivalent? Hell, withuout magical theory, the pa probaly
has no idea how to influence his or her use of the magus factor.

Comments, anyone?

Nothing is done, right now. The session ended with my failing roll on deadly
wounds and the whole argument of my post was: what to do now?

There's nothing on the books about this kind of event and I was looking for
ideas about how to roleplay the situation. Luckily, friday evening, in front
of a very tasty drink before dinner, me and the GM talked about this and
he's now thinking of a solution in terms of geasa/totem/initiation. That
should fix the whole thing :)

Bye, Paolo
BTW, my physad knows nothing about magic, he thinks to be a Batman-like
character, all training and sweating to reach physical perfection (!)

Well, Paolo, I hope it works out reasonably. Actually, I raised the issue
because our groups PA was also completely unaware of her magic- she thought
she was athletic and talented. Until she met Haliquen. See, our mages never
told her, cause she didn't want to hear it. But Harliqen had no such
compunctions. Now shes suffering from severe paradigm shift (ie,
soul-searching) and putting some karma into magic theory. On the other hand,
she also picked up a weapon focus and is starting to bond it. Scary.

P.S. I wouldn't consider you a new list member. Because of you WWW site,
your name comes up almost as much as Hayden's
