I think that once youve been hit in one of todays armor vests, the warrenty
requires you to replace it. This is because a lot of force is absorbed by
breaking strands of kevlar, and the heat melts some also. This may just be
manufacturer paranoia, if I had a stolen vest with a bullet stuck in it, I'd
still feel safer in that than nothing.
Having regular armor degrade would really suck and increase book keeping
(maybe not to much) but would also be confusing (say layered armor).
I had a caracter survive a ground zero bomb blast with only a serious wound,
but the GM ruled his heavy armor was trash (I think on the bassis that the
bomb blast had a power greater than 2x any rating the armor had. I lowered
the damage by buying sucesses after rolling and re rolling all my combat and
body dice). Street armor is easy to replace, but I'll probably never replace
that suit. Ah well. Guess i should at least get a new helmet.

I've long been wondering why helmets are so difficult to get... go to a dump
store (today) and you can pick up steel helmets, I bet that in 60 years you
can get kevlar ones just as easily.

I can get a British Army helmet (Kevlar), no problem. The problem is it
looks exactly like what it is, and I will certainly attract attention
wearing it. It won't pass as a motorcycle helmet either :-)

I think a lot of the hard-to-get for SR helmets is that you want to be
able to walk around in them: maybe not into shops and banks, but at
least to sit by the roadside tinkering with your bike.

Riding a motorbike is a good way to hide armour IMO...
