Depending on who you're with, it might default to willpower......

And if you're a male, you might have to resist drain....

I gotta go with Willpower.
'Cause even when you're tired, sometimes you just gotta keep going.
Of course, thouse with a more romantic bent might want to make it default to
Magic. ;-)

Actually we always played it as a specialization of Car, but it might also
default to Magic rating.

That was of course j/k

In WW they actually have a whole seduction series (first opening line Cha,
through the Bod roll for stamina, maybe adding a stealth roll to slip away?)

Well, what I'd use (third or fourth incarnation ;-) ) would be:
Treat sex as an attack doing stun damage. Roll Athletics with a TN of
partner's Willpower. "Attacker" can use net successes to stage up
damage, or to increase or decrease the base time. Attacker does a base
of Charisma M stun, resisted by Willpower.

If you want things to be amusing, try using initiative rules... :-)

I think you're going to have to fall back to SR2 rules for
this.

"Well, if I default from Athletics, it's only 3 dots away, but
I've got a 9 dice in Enchanting, let's see how that works..."

Yeah, but who'd WANT to resist that sorta damage? ;)

I WAS going to write a supplement on the topic. I even put together some names

Its not whether or not you want to resist it that interests me. I'm sort
of thinking of what happens when you get the deadly stun and have to move
some damage over into the physical....That might definately qualify as
mind-blowing sex.......;)

The things that come out of my player's minds.....

Involved:
-Dream, a decker who speak and thiinks in a monotone.
-Annex, a reporter who has very blunt methods.
-Arti, a physad who often confuses things and forgets noone knows what he
is talking about, even though he thinks he has explained everything.
-Rover, a sound specialist
-Burkoff, ex cop long gun.

Scene: the first meeting of the runners group with Dream. Annex has shown
up late, and the first thing she says is:

"You're late." She looks at the newcomer, Dream, and to him she says: "Take
off your clothes." (She a paranoid conspiracy theorist)

Dream: "You first." (Deadpan. The rest of the character are ROTFL)

Annex does, and Dream, without missing a beat: "I was being phicious."

I'd like to let my players find some gems like diamonds or
emeralds. Does anybody have a price/weight list for
(un)cutten gems which can be used in Shadowrun. I'd like to
be realistic for that matter.

The only place I remember seeing gems prices was in Grim2, mentioned under
the free spirit power of creating them. I don't remember anything else,
and have already packed my GR2 in a box because I'm moving to the other
coast at the end of this month, but you could look there.

Diamonds [and emeralds, for that matter] don't work that way. First of all,
the quality--no, I won't go into detail about the 4 Cs--of the stone is a
huge factor. Second, the larger a stone is, the greater the price per carat.
[For instance, a 1 carat diamond is more than twice the cost of a 1/2 carat
diamond.]

Moreover, the price of an uncut diamond is more often than not based on the
estimated value of the cut diamond that could be generated from it. On
average, I'd say, from a 2 carat uncut stone, it would not be unreasonable
to assume you could generate a 1 carat finished stone of acceptable cut.

However, if you want a general guideline, I would say that a single carat
cut stone of decent quality should be between US$4,000 and US$4,800. Double
the number of carats if you're giving them uncut diamonds [which they should
prefer, as they are less identifiable.]

What I want to know is, how do they expect to sell these things? Do they
know any jewelers who'll buy rocks from the SIN-less? Uncut rocks, at that?
And if this is a high-pay job, are they not worried about flooding the
Seattle diamond market [I mean, we're not talking about an enormous market
here] and thus driving down the prices as each successive team member sells
his stash?

I don't know. If I were them, I'd require bearer bonds or certified
credstick. I mean, what is this, the 20th century?

Yes, I know but I'd just like an estimation like

weight(c) diamond emerald saphire ...
1/2 200 120 150
1 500 ...
2
3

Just to be within the realistic limits.

The jewelery is planned to be more some kind of extra money
which can be stored somewhere safe and is not ment as the
main payment. So they have something valueable that can be
sold everywhere all over the world (of course only for a
fraction of it's real value).

I plan to let them infiltrate a smugglers ring which deals
with gems and other things. Maybe the characters take one
box and hide it before the final starts.

My suggestion would be to plan ahead what you plan for them to find and
call a jeweller about it. It's probably not going to be a straight scale
since a diamond ten times larger than another diamond is going to be more
than ten times rarer.

If you have extra money around that you don't want to send to me, and
still want a simplified scale, pick up Rolemaster's Treasure Companion.
It has a price (in gold pieces :P) per carat of various gems. Just pick
a gem, a number of carats (something small, like 1-5) to be your basis,
and call a jeweler to get a price range on it. Then you have a standard
for conversion and can use a dozen or so pages of an $18 book. :)

I think it's some kind of exponential function with unknown
parameters ...

Hey - that's a good hint. I think I have a friend who has
played Rulemaster. I will ask him.

What I had in mind was some kind of stock exchange list but
jewlery seems to be a very individual thing.

Thanks anyway

What you might also try is to look for some sort of jeweler's catalog (If
such a thing exists...) ... someplace that sells vut and uncut gems
places that make custom jewelery. Then pick up a few jewelery catalog
... that should give you a more accurate picture ... of course, it's alot
more work :)

I thought this did get answered for some reason. The rules for "Minerals" in
the MitS text concerning magical stuff exist, which is based somewhat on
weight (you have to read the game mechanics of Enchanting/Talismongering to
figure them all out). They may seem mild, but if you consider that the
further along in the processing (refining) of the gems you get, the better
the quality and the smaller the volume and the higher the price.

Not a price/weight list, but there is a small listing of precious
metals, and generic precious and semi-precious gems in Grimoire 2 for
enchanting purposes that will probably help some. the list is also in
MitS. Somewhere in there as well is just how much a unit of a material
is. It's in the enchanting section.

Disclaimer

These messages were posted a long time ago on a mailing list far, far away. The copyright to their contents probably lies with the original authors of the individual messages, but since they were published in an electronic forum that anyone could subscribe to, and the logs were available to subscribers and most likely non-subscribers as well, it's felt that re-publishing them here is a kind of public service.
