Yes, we heard something, but it was final by any means. This came from Jill
Lucas, who seems to be able ... no, forget it, I've raived enough about the
lady.. :)

Anyway, FASA is in the process of finding another company to pick up the ED
game, story, and concept. They really feel that ED has a lot of potential, it
was just not gaining the support beyond themselves (aka, many distributors
and/or retailers) that it deserved. They had not set anything into
stone/officiality as yet, but they were hoping for something in the very near
future.

Now how does this effect SR??? In Mike's words..."SR is moving forward, and
the connection has always been one-way really, from ED to SR, and it isn't
going to really effect anything from this point forward. No, Harlequin won't
vanish or die, as he was introduced in SR..." and the rest of the commentary
kind of held the same idea / feeling as this.

I know that there has to be more information, but we weren't made that privy
to it, as that would probably have stirred up trouble of some form (such as
exactly which company they were trying to get to pick ED up for example).

Ahhh... the SR/ED connection. A topic near and dear to my heart, as
everyone should be aware by now... :)

Mike said that the connection was thrown into Earthdawn as an
afterthought, pretty much right before it was released. He indicated
to me that it may have been a marketing move to try and capture some
business from the already established Shadowrun fans, as bringing a
new fantasy game to an already saturated market was a bold move, and
securing the SR gamers may have been a consideration.

Mike was clear to indicate that he does not hate the Earthdawn game.
His problem with the connection is that it is too much work from a
continuity standpoint to have to be consistent with two games, rather
than one. He concluded by saying that ED is in the past, and SR is
moving forward (basically what Keith quoted above).

I just want to add here that I also do not hate the Earthdawn game.
Up until Gencon, I had never played it. I did play in an ED demo, and
read through the main book, and it is a great world, and a great
game. I still feel, more so than ever, that the links between the two
weaken them both overall. Two great worlds, two great systems. I
think it was wise for FASA not to muddy the waters further, IMHO.

I do hope that Earthdawn finds a home soon.
