Ok, Ive had enough of this.. Im asking the Australian S'RN'ers to remind me of
this, but I think I will attempt (note the word just used :) ), to arrange for
a group of any Aussie gamers who want to go to origins or gencon (probably the
latter I suspect) to go next year. I know I want to. This will fall through
completely if there is a lack of interest, but thats the same with anything
isnt it? (How could there be a lack of interest I ask you?) :)

I'd like to go, but I'm not sure if I'd have the money. If you can get
a good package deal, though...

Sold!

I'm gonna be at GenCon next year if it _kills_ me. Then again, I've been
saying "next year" for the past three years running *sigh*. Nonetheless,
I'm going to be there next year no matter what it takes.

Well, maybe not _quite_... ;-)

Well lets just see what the other aussie runners think of the idea and
perhaps early next year we can find out just how good a deal we can get.
Maybe Qantas will be in a favourable mood?

All this talk of difficulty getting to GenCon has made me wonder about
something. I was recently mocked by a friend about how much my airfare cost
me roundtrip (Boston to Milwaukee at just over 1K). So I'm wondering, how
much did planefare to the Con cost everybody else?

Hahahaha! You're funny.

Well, we can hope...

If my finances will allow - translation, if my insurance payout comes
through in time - I'm actually considering going for Origins, doing the
touristy/visiting thing for a month, then going to GenCon. With Origins and
GC being so close together, it seems like a shame not to go to both, if I'm
spending all that money to fly over anyway.

(Mind you, I'm encouraged by the fact that while I'm a freelancer on SR
stuff, EVERYTHING I spend on gaming is tax deductible. Bwahahahaha. :-)

Actually, I have dibs on the "Mr. Freaky Big" bit - that's the
"street"

work with them on that...

Caric and I paid about $320 each for Roundtrip from Phoenix to
Milwaukee. We got our tickets in March or so though. Don't know if
this helps, but there it is.

For the GCers: Did anyone else see the "Pepe Moreno, Rebel" book in the
Crazy Egor's As-Is Bin? We hurt ourselves laughing at it.

Actually i was going to suggest that.. I looked at the dates again this
afternoon and I figure if you spend enough to get over there, it would be kewl
to actually see both wouldnt it? :)

Be careful though. Each time I flew over, the international flights ended
up being a minor element of the total costs. It all adds up so quickly
(%^$!! Oz dollar!). Staying with friends is the only real cost cutting
solution.

Yep. A friend's being using this little sweetener for several years now. :-)

_Never_ fly to Milwaukee, never. We have no direct flights, so you end up
getting routed through Minnesota or Chicago. What you should is fly to
Chicago and take the shuttle up to Milwaukee. You'll end up saving
$100-200.

Now Lady J., you know better than to make statements like this, especially
given your track record. Try and make it, sure. Don't get hurt in the
process.

Okay, on the serious side of things. Several of us did take a vow while at
GC this year. We are going to start EARLY. So then, the GCPLAN list that
Bull started on eGroups is the target place to hold the organizing. Bull, if
you are paying attention, would you PLEASE pay more attention. You guys are
starting to organize Origins already for next year. I do believe we can
start doing minimal things for Gencon as well.

Actually, I have been told that if I have 30 days advanced notice, I can get
anywhere from Indianapolis to Phoenix/LA for around $200 due to some funtime
connections held by certain family members. I know they made it from Phoenix
to New Hampshire *last year* for about $420 round trip, but I think that may
have been for just one ticket (the other was free, they get =TONS= of airtime
miles collected for all their business stuff.

Alternatively, fly into Indianapolis and come up with Mike B. on his way home
from work and stay here in Lafayette before we go up again next year...

That is not so..I had a direct flight from Denver to Milwauke..As for
saving money..It is a little less expensive to fly into Chicago..but
then you have to rent a car..So the savings goes out of the window..

I bought my tickets kinda late and I only paid around $300..
Usually I pay around $166 if I reserve early enough..
That is from either Denver or Salt Lake City to Milwaukee..
If I fly directly out of Grand Junction add another $100 to $250

I bought mine a few weeks before GC (Not that many, sometime in
July IIRC, maybe around the 15th or so), and they cost me $345
from Houston IAH. That was with Northwest/Continental, one
stopover in Detroit of all places.
