-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

After checking with my local retailer, I've decided that I might as
well get my Hardback SR3 from someone going to Gen-Con, just to be
safe.

So, are there any Gen-Con-goers out there who would be willing to snag
an extra SR3 Hardback for me?

Please respond by private e-mail.

I do hope all of you realize that even if everyone from this list
who is going to GenCon were to buy multiple copies so that
everyone who can't make it to GC can have a hardback, we'll all
be carrying about 10 or 15 of them around? :)

What the heck is GenCon??? (I thought it would explain by itself but it
didn't by now, so...)

GenCon is short for the "Geneva Convention", a name taken from WAY back when
the convention was completely centered around T$R, when it was still -TSR-.
It's the major gaming convention held in North America in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
This year, it's between August 5th and 9th (and I'm gonna be there... :P).
Several members of this list, and a couple of thousand more people, are coming
in from all over the globe.

Bull, exactly how many people are on the GC Planning List anyway? That is a
good estimate of the people from this list that are going (estimate at least).

Origins (which was just a week or two ago) is starting to rival GenCon in
scale and size now (held in Ohio).

That's all I really know, and I know it costs money, as everything else does
these days...

Actually Kieth old buddy, need to correct you in a couple of spots...

Gen Con started out a small, local wargaming convention in 1967 in Lake
Geneva, Wisconsin. The name Geneva Convention was a play on words.

TSR didn;t get started till about 5 years later, and they ended up using
the convention via the forerunner of D&D, Chainmail (more of a wargame than
RPG :)).

Eventually, once D&D and then AD&D took off, TSR took over GenCon and it
strated getting larger and larger... They moved to Milwaukee soimetime
around 1978 or 79, I think...

Oh, and TSR is actually still TSR... They are now just a subsidiary of
WOTC... :]

Hell, more than a couple thousand.,.. try 25,000+. :]

I'd guess somewhere around 30 or so listmemebrs taht I know of... OUr
little group alone has around 18 or so...

Not really... Origins has a much different focus than Gen Con.

Origins is primarily two things, especially since WOTC took over:

1) The semi-prestigous Origins Awards showcase the best games to come out
the previous year. (SR TCG won for best new card game of 97, and best
Graphic Design). This has always been a focus of the con, though before
WOTC took over it was primarily a small Wargaming/Miniatures conventionn
(Sound familiar :))

2) Quite a few of WOTC's M: TG tourneis are held there every year, and
that has really become the focus of the convention.

Origins is also a bit smaller, with numbers of 5,000 - 10,000 (Don;t know
the exact figures for Origins 98 yet, but 97 was around 6K, I think).

OTOH:

Gen Con has always been (Well, at least since the mid 70's :)) an RPG con.
Card Games are much more prevailant these days, but the RPGs still rule the
table space at GC.

GC is also a major highlight for most major game companies since they'll
use the con and the massive exposure they get there to showcase new products.

FASA did the Election and Assasination of Dunkelzahn in 96, premiered the
card game in 98, and is releasing SR3 this year. Many other companies will
do the same.

Well, that's all I really know... :]

Scary part is, I've only done a couple of the major cons so far... A lot
of this is gleaned from my sometimes faulty memories from reading old
Dragon magazine issues :] Go figure :]

Hey Bull, you didn't correct anything I put forth, you just expanded on it.
It was in "Geneva Wisconsin", I just forgot the water :P. And if you would
notice the $ vs. the S in TSR that I spelled ... (personal bias there ;).

And for some reason I keep remembering 79...though I don't know why..
