..And to be honest, your posts are the only place I've seen the word Ghille.

The actual word you are hunting for (sic) is 'Ghillie', and is taken from gaelic...

Look at
http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=q&kl=XX&stype=stext&q=Ghillie&search.x4&search.y=5
(1047 hits, all about hunting, stalking and the like)
compared to
http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=q&kl=XX&stype=stext&q=Ghille&search.x4&search.y=5
(128 hits, about other things).

In my search to become an avid paintballer, a while back I searched for
various forms of camoflage technique. Warpig is one of the top sites for
paintballing, and they have a document up that has some rudimentary history
on the Ghillie suits (actual spelling) and even some info on how such a suit
can be crafted. The Scottish gamekeepers used it to lay in wait for
poachers. Really neat.

OK, I've been leaving out the the "i".

This is the equivelent of being told my fly is open. Thanks, but why
couldn't someone have told be earlier.
(I know it's gaelic- the name comes from the Welsh gamekeepers who taught
the British sharpshooters in WWI, IIRC)

ROFL!
I'm sorry, but telling someone that you know the ACTUAL spelling of ANY
Gaelic words is pretty funny.
That language has sooooo many variants and alternate spellings it's amazing!
Maybe you meant the "Accepted" spelling? ;-)

Little trivia for you, the name comes from the Gaelic legends of the Green
Men, or Ghillie Dhu.
Kind of a "Man of the Woods" from the high country.
They could blend into the woods, and take a traveller unawares - just like
these Ghillie suits.

Actually, as far as the governments of the area are concerned, there is a
standardized spelling. They revamped it and made it phonetical over 100
years ago. It's a second language learners dream, once you can speak with a
mouth full of beer. ;)
