In my campaign, the cause of the blast is an NPC trying to destroy the
horror. Since the horror is completey astral it is not affected at all, In
fact, almost the exact opposite happens. The negative energy released by
such a huge number of innocent deaths, gives the horror the "boost" it
needs to break the barrier and enter the sixth world. This horror's
physical presence will cause holes in the astral barrier, allowing other
horrors to eventually enter, which will bring about the scourge.

Since I've gone this far, I might as well spill the whole can. In my SR
campaign, the players have come across an artifact that stores memories. I
have used this artifact as a plot device to justify my paralell ED campaign
(they didn't want to play ED, but I forced them into it. They are loving
the game despite themselves).

In reality, the artifact is not giving them stored memories, but rather
memories projected from the future. You see, my ED campaign takes place
1,200 years after the sixth world. I had to rewrite a lot of the ED
background to make most of it fit, but it's worked so far. The players have
yet to figure this out, but when they do, it should be good. The big
questions are-will they recognize the danger and stop the event from
happening? And, can they change the future, or is it all fate, and they are
just doomed to play it out?

This whole thread reminds me of a classic:

Player:"So, we drop the 50 megaton nuke on Great Cthulu. What happens?"
Keeper (GM): "He reforms after three rounds AND he is also radioactive!"
