I have a solution: it's called "pre-generated characters". Can you say that?
I thought you could...

Really, if I ever were to run something at a con, I would use pre-gens. Not
neccessarily _archtypes_, but pre-generated characters of my own design.

In fact, one of the best games I ever played in is where everyone was a
char{cter based off of one of the "contacts" from the main rulebook.
(I was the clueless pedestrian. The paramedic saved my butt at least twice.)

Firstly, I can *really* identify with those who were complaining about
munchkins at cons - unfortunately. Sigh.

This is what I do for tournaments I write. How else can you determine if
someone roleplays a character well? How else do you players against each other
for prizes? How do you know if a team has a balanced party (and one that
can co-operate) for the event unless you pre-generate the characters.

That's a good concept. I wish I had thought of it.

I know of no cons in Australia where you could bring your own
character along. You always play pre-generated characters.
Often the plot depends on this.

Weird cons you have over there...

on pregenerated characters:

yep, i WAS using pregens (it was an RPGA module)...they just wanted to brag
about their characters mostly..

i did have a guy that wanted to play and asked if he could bring in his own
character. i told him we were using pregenerated characters. he said "oh",
then asked if i was going to use the More Metahumans Rule...i said "sure, why
not!" since one of the pregens was a dwarf and another an elf...luckily, this
person who obviously needs his ears and logic circuits tested, decided not to
play..
