Actually, the crew of the late USS Enterprise NCC-1701 experienced a
similar dilemna. In Star Trek II, when faced with the understandably
disquieting prospect of transporting to a point several miles (to use
Imperial units) beneath the surface of Regula, this exchange resulted:

McCoy: "Go? Where?"

Kirk: "Where /they/ went."

McCoy: "Suppose they went /nowhere/?"

Kirk: "Then this'll be your big chance to get away from it all."
