After I found my #611 in the mail today, time for some avid reading
;) Some parts have been discussed on this list, no need to discuss them again.

Let's go:

... inbound and overall printing quality is pretty decent, the book has a
great "touch" I think

... I especially like the pictures of the old two covers on the second page :)

... "Street Samurai [...] attempt to be the quickest, meanest and strongest
killing machines" ... I hope this isn't telling...

... "These hosts contain the deepest, darkest secrets of corporations"
Wireless? Who would be that stupid?

... Still only 8 lines about cyberware, and I'm on page 38 :/ looks like
WiFiPunk right now...

... completely skipped the dice mechanics part of the game concept section.
No need to vomit, really.

... I like the splitting of attributes, except for essence now including
bioware. Oh, and I really dislike resonance. Come on - "thinking" in a
wireless protocol and broadcasting binaries with your brain? As fast as a
computer? Sure =)

... That orc with 2 OICW looks sooooo stupid ^^

... The edge rules for initiative would definitely be gone in my game

... Too bad the priority building system is gone :/

... artwork is damn good!

... interesting archetypes, especially the bounty hunter

... I LOVE the new firearms skillgroups. Way better then the previous
splitting into weapons!

... What a bummer - still the old range tables, with minor alterations. So
you can still better shoot with a taser when using a scope? At a range of
20 meters? Yeah right.

... Wow. So now as everybody can get a smartlink for free, suddenly it's
usable together with a scope. Surprise, surprise, surprise...

... Way better rules for automatic fire and suppressive fire

... The wireless world... better get me an airsickness bag or something, I
guess

... At least, I like the jargon parts. Gives the players a base amount of
slang to get into mood...

... The "Account privileges"-part is funny ^^ How do they grant these
rights? Individually for every system? You got to be kidding...

... Just read the "Network Security" box... Hey, I'm on page 223 ^^ cable
spaghetti? Never heard of structured cabling systems?

... Only 2 pages for riggers???

... Critters with pics!! Yippy ^^

... First page of the gear chapter, first bummer. No weight stats? Is it
really that hard to make up some believable stats for each item?

... And while they were at it, they tossed individual concealability
ratings out as well. Thanks.

... Yamaha Sakura Fubuki ... I prefer Akira Fubuki ;) Are those barrels
reloadable?

... Stick n Shock ammo - Why no weapon damage? Do those capacitors weight
nothing? Maybe they should make gel round damage or something...

... vision / audio enhancers ... I really wonder, why ANYBODY would still
want to have cyberware by now...

... And now - the cyberware part. Welcome to "Screw The Sam", part 2. No,
not all cyber is essence-friendly. The important stuff (and now the only
stuff mundane people can't get) is still at the same cost (bone lacings,
boosters, air tank, for example).

... Only new stuff is that ocular drohne (which you can buy as a normal
drohne of same size anyway) and a grappel gun (take a guess...).

... Oh, and I wonder why you can get cosmetics (like tusks) for free, but
not dermal plating. Is there any difference between a fully color-dyed body
with tusks and subdermal plating? Please tell me

... Same with bioware. But who cares anyway :/

Okay. 2.5 hours after I started reading.

I already had and voiced some major problems with SR4, namely the new dice
mechanism and the wireless matrix. I'll spare you that ranting.

Let's add a third one: no new cyberware since "Cybertechnology", and now
they even killed the bio index. So the street samurai will attempt to "get
some" for this essence but will perform like Sisyphus with his rock. With
less essence and still high costs for important cyber, he'll stand no
chance - even against unaltered guys with "just edge". This is truly
disappointing for me.

Other than these three issues, it's a great book. Much more content, great
looks, the game world seems to be much more consistent than before. Which,
for me, is another bad thing - because I cannot even use the upcoming
sourcebooks, where the AR should be an important and ever-present factor.
Guess it's time for a new game.

According to Arclight, on 24-10-05 19:10 the word on the street was...

I was surprised to see the book is actually sewn, not just glued.

Who's going to be the first to turn Snow Crash into an SR4 adventure? :)

> ... artwork is damn good!

I have mixed feelings about it. Some of the art is very good, other
pieces almost make me wish FanPro would hire Earl Geier ;)

> ... Way better rules for automatic fire and suppressive fire

I'd have preferred something like the house rules I've been using for
years, but I can't figure out a way to make them fit with the SR4 mechanics.

If only they'd actually try and use it (preferably without having to
stop themselves from laughing).

I guess weight isn't important anymore. You can always do it like
Cyberpunk 2020 and assign everything an approximate weight or something.
"Pistols are about a kilo, computers 2 kg," etc.

Well, at least it's better than just using game terms

And I suppose they were just lazy or too late in schedule
