nice idea , hermetic wizzer using coins

try this , the greeks had lesser powers known as muses and
fates ( and nymphs, slyphs , nerieds , titans etc), fates
ring true for me ( hinging on the coin being tossed in the
air , their were 3 of them if i remember right ,
cannibalistic sisters who shared an eye ,<jason or
perseus(?)> , great seers ) now what you could do is hinge
(geas) the sorcery spells to the coin landing with an eye
showing ( i.e the sister look upon you) or a happy / unhappy
face , the geas would be very nasty as in theory your magic
would only work half the time ( sort of like two-face in
batman repeating okay ......best out of three ......i mean
five .....okay make that......)

the muses tended more towards patronage of the arts though i
am sure one was the mistress of magic (chloe or maybe she
was death), also nice tie in , but why restrict yourself to
only greek , other mythos have some interesting side
ventures , there is celtic , or if you really have no
social life chinese , mayan , aztec , incan , zulu , sotho ,
oceanic , norse etc .Greek is just the best known ( thanks
to rome's adoption of it)

now celtic has a couple of greater powers ( danu , lugh ,
math mothonwe , etc) who also hinge a bit magic ( math being
a bookish type , lugh being sun and combat , danu being
earth) this could easily tie said character into the Tir na
nog , and the Tuatha de Danann , and almost fit's perfect
into sixth age , your wiz could be an elven incarnation of
Cuchullian , (nice for physads or did one of the IE's take
that already) , or a long dead druid reborn in a different
age

you could go with zulu , ( playing a wakyambi ) with a anima
spirit called a tokoloshe ( he is an evil SOB who you have
to keep a good eye on) , who is short ( about a foot tall)
who powers spells in a twisted sort of way ( good for npcs
sort of like a insect or toxic shaman only it's just the
spirit that twists the magic)

aztec fits nicely into american adventures , particularly
Aztlan hope all those help

Sometime, somwhere down the timeline, Kanniemeernie Korperaal whispered:

?? Lesser? Not that I really know much 'bout them, but weren't they the ones
over whom the gods had absolutely no power? I heard that they where the ones
who decided who was born and who died?

Sound really mean. How about some kind of super-geas, also reducing the
amount of karma needed to learn magical and mythical stuff and/or reducing
drain (like, is NEVER physical or something)?
