I am looking for ideas here. My brain is tired from too much
work. :)

I have a player who is a hermetic who has decided to tie his
character concept to some ancient gold coins. He originally
though 4 coins.. but I am thikning more. He wants the coins
to in some way be tied to his magic - almost like fetishes.

I am not sure what I want to do with this - I also admit the
greek mythos is not one of my areas of expertise.

So what I am trying to come up with is some kind of mapping
of Initiate power to Greek mythology symbols.

So if anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful.

So make them fetishes, or even foci (assuming he bonds to them). Or
alternativwely, a geas requirement: he has to fondle his coins to work his
magic. ;)

Library's your best bet, bud. Or even an Internet search on "Greek
Mythology." Didja try that yet?

Initiate power? The easiest way would be geasa.

Not an expert on Greek mythology, eh? How ironic... :)

Like others said, they could be fetishes (gold is kind of pricey, and
fetishes cheap, so they would be small coins), foci, or related to a
talisman geas.

The term "hermetic" magic is derived from Hermes, a multifaceted trickster
god. Apparently there was actually an ancient egyptian philosopher Hermes
who the Greeks adopted as a god who acted as a link to the spirit world, and
whose writings were studied by many Greek philosophers looking for clues
about the transcendent truths of the universe.

I don't think there is any need- Greek philosophic magic was pretty bizarely
abstract, and had very little to do with the mythology popularized later
(mostly by the Romans). You'd be better off checking out some of the wacky
cults they had in ancient Greece.

Ah, he is to become an Initiate. Well, then, let me turn and look to my
MitS...

(Please note that the PC in question seems to ALREADY be pursuing the greek
concept. The suggestions of picking other mythos is pretty much useless for
Minotaur. Help the man, don't babble, neh?)

Hmmmm. Actually -- or, perhaps, unfortunately -- I am having a hard time
linking metamagics to deity-figures for a hermetic. Hermetics, while artists,
are also scientists; unless the player wanted the character to (somehow) turn
to a shamanic (or better yet, idolist) spellcaster, the use of gods or other
mythological symbolism tends to clash with the hermetic concept.

So, unfortunately, I'm drawing a blank, too. :P My apologies.
