Being new and having lurked for just one digest, I felt the need for an
introduction. I am David Theis; however, you may call me by my preferred
tag, "Doc." I live with my wife and our two attack felines, Rocco and
Pumpkin, in the Bowling Green, KY area.
Enough about me.
After reading an earlier post on Gygax, T$R, etc., I felt a sudden kinship
with the members of this group. Although I am a part of a Seattle and a
Greyhawk campaign at the same time, I feel like I've found a new home in
FASA Land. Before picking up SR with my gaming group a couple of months
ago, I had never played any RPG's other than TSR material. Boy, was I ever
living a sheltered life!
Also being a subscriber to the Greytalk discussion group, though, I thought
I could add some interesting insight to the T$R situation, although I'm
quite sure most of you probably are aware of this already. T$R dismissed a
dozen or more employees right before Xmas and is making major plans to dump
a good portion of their gaming lines. They are supposedly releasing control
of RPGA, and, according to some local gaming store owners, T$R is
definitely backing away from their retailers, most assuredly planning the
start to their own marketing and distribution, presumably
internet-oriented.
Talk of T$R possibly selling itself to a larger company has also come up.
Hasbro, of all companies, seems to head the list of potential buyers. It
really does look grim for the future of AD&D, although I, for one, feel T$R
may actually come up big with a net-oriented sales blitz, if they first can
only overcome their phobic attitude of internet exposure. They certainly
didn't make many friends, when they harrassed so many web page designers
for using T$R copyright materials on their pages. A real shame.
Anyway, that's the last I plan to mention T$R during my residency here.
Anybody know where I could locate a compilation of the greatest sim-scenes
of 2053?
Hey, who gives a drek? Right!
