This an actual event my father witnessed while doing his national service
(conscription) overseas:

An american soldier had hung his grenades by the pins from his vest (rather
than safetly stored in a pouch, which was the correct procedure).

While jumping out of a transport, one of them fell off and rolled under the
truck - which still held about 20 other guys. It was not pretty.

Generally, grenades have a "safety" lever (I think was referred to as a
spoon), which while held, prevents the fuse or time activating.

While it is possible to put the pin back, so long as the lever has not been
released, my father strongly recommends that you safely dispose of it, as
the pin is more likely to come loose at an inconvenient moment (or be bent
by reinsertion and not come out when you want it to).

So in response to the player who said the grenades would not go off because
they were in a vest, that may not be exactly true.

Unless the levers are held tight (such as wrapped up in duct tape), any
large impact or simply taking the jacket off later (and forgotting) could do
it.

If the adventure is still going on next game, you could put some sort of
nasty surprise.

A pin could also break off after being wrongly reinserted (or shoot out
again), subjected to impacts (ie - explosions), a heat/cooling
expansion-contraction (eg - desert nights) or get grease or muck that
lubricates it (certainly a crawl for the sewers would qualify).

Have evil fun!

<@^@> put "Hey Robert!" (without quotes) in the subject line to bypass my
junk mail filter and do not mention any sort of word associated with
commercial transactions.
